There’s 5 minutes left until the games starts and I finally see her. I wave until she catches my attention. She makes her way over and sits down with me. “So where is he?” she asked. “He’s #14. Right there!” I say pointing to Josh. He looks at me and I start waving, and even through his helmet I can see the twinkle in his eyes. When he sees her, and she sees him. His mom. She looks and me and smiles. We look back wave and she gives me the biggest hug I have ever had in my life. I actually felt like a daughter for once, a daughter who had a mother who cared enough to hug her. It felt so soothing. So warm and caring.
She released and got back to the start of the game. Eating her popcorn bite by bite and taking a sip of her Perrier water every now and then. She looked so graceful and elegant. By the time half time came by I had to use the washroom sooooooooooo badly it was unbearable. I sprinted to washroom and took the first stall on the right. I settled down and started doing my business and then I heard a familiar voice. It was Chelsea. “After they win the championship game, I’m going to run onto that field and jump into Josh’s arms and give him a gold medal kiss to go along with the gold medal game.” She laughed. I stood up on the seat and peered between the cracks on the stall door and saw Chelsea, and her 2 friends doing their makeup. “What about Heather?” her one friend asked. “I heard they got back together before the game.” Chelsea slammed her mascara onto the counter and I watched as it bounced to the ground. “Get one thing right Ashley. If you want to be my friend then you don’t talk about heather, you don’t doubt me, and you understand that Josh is mine.” She picked grabbed her bag and stormed out with the 2 Barbie’s following her.
