I walk in the hotel room and lay on my bed. I've got so much on my head. This is not what I was expecting, I expected Anthony to tell me he missed me and loved me. Then there's Macy. This is truly exhausting, first it was Brittney and now its her. There's a note under the door and I walk over to get it, there's a note 'We start working tommorow at 7.' its from Nick. At least some good news.
~
"How was it?" Nick asks as we walk out the hotel. I shrug, "It was okay." I lie, because it was so not okay. I cried myself to sleep, I still have this feeling in my chest. Like I lost Anthony. That's the worst feeling, he's my everything and what do I do if I feel like I lost my everything? "You don't look okay." he says looking at me. "I'm okay. How much money do we have left?" I ask considering we have to pay about 70 dollars a day on the hotel which is in horrible, horrible, condition but it was the cheapest we could find.
"Few hundred." he says, "We have to find a place to stay." I say, "Actually I was looking at some apparments yesterday while you were gone to see Anthony." he hands me a folded newspaper. I look at the aparment that's circled in the newspaper. Its small but has one bathroom and two rooms, and 160 a month plus the water and stuff. Its better than staying here paying 70 dollars everyday. "Do you have 160?" I ask him and he nods.
"We need to move in, now we both have a job so tha'll be easier." I say taking a hotpocket from his hand. We've been eating these for the past few days, we can't afford to buy food. "I called and the owner said we could go look at it today and see if we like it." he starts eating his hotpocket. "Really? That's great!" finally good news.
We take a taxi to get to work, when we arrive the manager there hands us our uniforms. "You will be working the cash register and you darling," he faces me. "You will be taking orders and serving." I would much rather work the cash register than to talk to costumers. "Remember umm Sydney, thats your name right?" I nod. "You need to be friendly and smile at all times." he says also handing me a pen and a small notepad.
I go to the bathroom and change, I walk in the bathroom stall and start undressing. Somebody is crying on the end stall, I can hear it. I wonder who it is, and why she's crying. Specially in a cafe bathroom. I get done and walk out, I stare at my reflection but keep wondering who's sniffling and crying. She probably feels alone, and thats not a good feeling. I bend down to get all my hair so I can tie it in a ponytail, the bathroom door opens and I'm still bending down but I can see a pair of feet walking out. She's wearing the same pants I'm wearing so she must work here.
I get up and try not too look at the girl, I don't want her to feel uncomfortable. But she's looking down, I turn my face to see her. She has short hair .. A pixie hair cut, and she's pale. My heart rate increases.. It can't be.. she looks up and wipes her eyes. My heart falls to my stomach. Alice. Its Alice.
Before she looks up I walk out quickly, I feel all my high school memories come flashing to me. Alice didn't never say anything mean to me, she never insulted me or picked on me. But she was there while the others tortured me, she didn't do anything to stop it. She never spoke up to tell a teacher to tell somebody. She stayed quiet. She could've helped me .. she could've stopped it. But she didn't. She decided to go along with the crowd. That's what hurts the most.
I bump into a girl carrying a tray luckily she grabs it before it falls. "I'm- I'm so sorry." I whisper blinking away the tears. "Its fine, just be careful." the red haired girl says. Her name tag says 'Selena'. She walks away and I look back at the bathroom, Alice walks out and walks in the kitchen. She probably works back there. I'm glad so I wont have to see her every two seconds, eventually I know I will. "Sydney!" the manager says, I turn around scared. "Yes?" I ask, "You will take the next costumer that walks in." he smiles then walks away. I look over at Nick who's at the cash register he smiles at me and I try to smile back but it's impossible.
The cafe door opens, my costumer. But as soon as I see who it is I regret working here.
