Looking at the clock on her side table, Olivia could see it was only one-thirty in the morning. Getting up to go to the bathroom, she could still smell the fresh scent of chocolate in the air and decided to go downstairs to get a glass of water and a cookie.
Just before turning to go towards the kitchen, something that she hadn't seen in decades caught her attention. Walking over to the front entrance, sitting happily between her boots, was Lambie. How did you get there?
Picking the stuffed animal up, she hugged it to her breasts. Oh Susannah, how I miss the days that you were little. Looking at the lamb, she kissed it, saying, I love you. Tucking the lamb under her arm securely, she went into the kitchen for that cookie before she went back to bed.
Susannah, is that you? I thought you were dead. There, playing on the swings was her little angel, Susannah. She was about five and would start kindergarten that September. Olivia enjoyed watching Susannah play with the other kids in the park. There was something about the sound of innocent children's laughter that made one smile.
Mom, it is me, Susannah. I just needed to make sure that you were okay. I am sorry for the pain I have caused you, any pain throughout this lifetime. I never meant to hurt you. I was so mad at dad for freaking out on me. I just couldn't let go of the pain and anger. I wanted to punish him. But I am so sorry that it punished you as well. Will you please forgive me?
Susannah, don't be silly. All little girls do stupid things. Of course, I forgive you. Olivia went over to the swings and picked her daughter up and gave her a big hug and kiss. What a funny thing to say to me.
Mom, are you okay? I need to know you are okay.
Susannah, you are so sweet to worry about me, but I will be okay. I miss you dearly when you are not with me, but I know we will be together again one day. Turning over, Olivia woke up from the dream. Lying there in her bed, she said a prayer for Susannah.
God, please look after my little angel, she had wandered off the righteous path, but I trust that she has found her way back to you. Please take her under your wing and protect her. Bring her into your glory of eternal bliss, grant me the knowledge that she is safe and well cared for in the light of your glory.
Thank you for forgiving her analytical mind and her stubbornness for not always seeing what she can't see, touch, hear or know to be the truth. I pray that my belief in you is enough to guide her into the light and that her soul is safe and sound, home with you.
And God, thank you for all the good times and love that I was able to share with her while she was on Earth. Amen.
The last thing Olivia remembered as she fell back into a peaceful deep sleep, was kissing Lambie, as she said, I love you, Susannah, go into the light.
