After a few minutes of driving, she started to calm down. Susannah, I did what you asked and brought you to see Billy. He is not okay with your death. I hope that satisfies your request because I'm not going back. Looking at her purse, she noticed she was talking to nobody for the lamb was not there.
Oh, my God! Susannah. She couldn't go back. Billy's mother would never let her step a foot through the front door. Susannah. I am so sorry. How could I have left you? How on Earth am I going to get you into Heaven now? Devastated, Lexi drove over to her mom's.
Frantically opening her mom's front door and running into the house, Lexi started to panic. "Mom! Oh my God, Mom!"
Olivia came out of the kitchen and almost ran right into Lexi. "Dear God, child! What is the matter?"
Waving her hands in the air, Lexi hysterically cried, "Oh, my God! Mom, I've lost Susannah!"
"Lexi, you are not making any sense. Susannah is dead. She died weeks ago. Sit down. You're scaring me." Olivia carefully maneuvered her youngest daughter into the living room and onto the sofa.
"Mom, I went to see Billy."
"Yes, you said you were going to do that. Did you give Billy back his ring?"
"Yes, and he freaked out. He told me it was some sick joke and that I had to leave."
"Oh, I am so sorry, Lexi. Sometimes people under extreme stress do bizarre things," she said, in a tone that also implied Lexi.
"No, Mom, you don't understand. I lost Susannah."
"Lexi, you are not making any sense."
"Mom, Susannah was attached to the lamb I borrowed. She wanted to see how Billy was doing. It was one of her last requests."
"Have you lost your mind? Lexi, you sound like you need to be in one of those white suits. You know, the ones where they tie your arms behind you? What is going on?"
"Mom, you have got to believe me. Susannah did not make it into Heaven. She got lost in the Void. Reverend Hawthorne and Tamara helped me to get her out. But to do that, Tamara had to bind her to something on Earth that Susannah loved. So, I chose Lambie, her favorite stuffed toy."
"That is ludicrous, Lexi." Olivia was getting very worried about her daughter's sanity.
Mom, I didn't believe it at first either. But the fact is Susannah is a ghost. Magically attached to her lamb, which is now misplaced at Billy's."
Lexi stared at her mom. Hardly taking a breath she said, "This is why I didn't tell you in the first place. I thought you could help me, but I see now that you can't. I guess Susannah was right, you and Dad are so stuck in your Catholic ways that there is no other spiritual possibility.
Lexi could see the look on her mother's face and knew she was not going to get any help here. "I am sorry, Mom. I made a mistake in coming here. You can't help me." Lexi ran out of the house faster than she went in.
"Lexi, come back here! You are not in the state of mind to be driving," Olivia said as she ran out the door without her coat and boots on. "Watch out for the..."
Lexi's car almost hit someone as she speedily drove away. Freezing, Olivia came back in. Shutting the door, she said a silent prayer for Lexi. Without hesitation, she went over to the phone and dialed.
