I Like Talking With You Madmax (Lumax One Shots)

I'm not going anywhere

This one shot happens a few weeks after Billy's death, the party is having it's first sleepover since that day at Lucas place and they all sleep in his attic (idk if the Sinclair actually have a attic and if it's possible to sleep in it but I need it for the story so nevermind) . Also, El and the Byers didn't move away and Max broke up with Lucas a few weeks ago.

Lucas slowly opened his eyes as a ray of moonlight was tickling his eyelids. The boy yawned lazily before stretching his arm toward Max, who was sleeping next to him, in an attempt to pull her closer.

Instead of his girlfriend, he only encountered an empty and cold mattress and huffed sadly. He always forgot that Max no longer slept next to him as she had broken up with him a few days after Billy's death.

Straightening up,he spotted all of his friends sleeping at different places of the room, El and Mike in each other's arms and Dustin and Will snoring slightly. Max's sleeping bad was on the other side of the attic (as far from him as possible) but the moonlight was lightening it and the boy saw that it was empty.

Without even controlling it, Lucas felt a cold shiver running down his spine. He didn't mean to imagine the worst but he really couldn't help. Sure, Max was not his girlfriend anymore but he was still in love with her and didn't even know what he would do if anything happened to her.

Breathing deeply, the boy admonished himself. There was nothing to worry about, she was just downstairs, in the toilet or maybe drinking a glass of water because she was thirsty.

He kept repeating that in his head as he was climbing down the stairs and entered the bathroom to check it. Max was not here. She was not in the kitchen either.

Lucas grew more and more worried until the point where he decided to come back upstairs to wake his friends up. Maybe El could find her best friend with her power or something ? But what if there was nothing to find because she was already dead ?

He was about to go shake them when he saw that the hitch leading to the roof above his head was open. Lucas knew how much Max loved watching the stars, she always used to say that they were the most beautiful thing ever created by nature, even if Lucas was still convinced that it was in fact her.

Climbing up the ladder leading to the roof, the boy could see his ex girlfriend who was effectively gazing at the sky and started to get closer to her. That when he realized that there was something wrong with her. Max's shoulders were shaking as if she was holding back mute sobs, her blue eyes wandering into the nothingness.

"You shouldn't be there Stalker", the red haired snapped without even looking at him.        " We're done remember ?"

" I don't care if we are Max. We may not be in a relationship anymore but I still want you to be okay and you seem like you need help right now..."

" See, that's why I broke up with you Lucas."  She cut him, plunging her blue eyes into his. " That why we can't be together. Not now and not ever."

" But why ? " The boy's voice was so desperate that Max felt her heart breaking a little more.

 " Did I do something wrong ? Did I not help you enough  after... All of that ? Just tell me what I need to do and I swear I will..."

" Stop being like that Lucas ! " Max yelled angrily, catching her ex boyfriend by surprise. " Stop worrying about me ! You should be sleeping in your bed or playing a stupid game with your friends or just living your life ! "

" But I care about you ! "

" Then just stop caring ! Stop caring about me ! " Tears started running down her face but she wipe them away angrily " Just live me the fuck alone, it'll be better for the both of us. I don't even know why I came to this stupid sleepover ! "

" Max " This time, the boy was angry and he rose his voice, looking her in the eyes with a questioning expression . " This is  not you. This is not the girl I used to know and loved with all my heart. What happened to my Madmax ? What happened to her ? "

"  This girl doesn't exist anymore. She disappeared the minute Billy received this tentacle in the heart ! " Her voice started to shake but she kept talking anyway. " I tried to pick up the pieces. I swear to you I did. I wanted to be a good daughter, a good friend and a good girlfriend for you because that what you deserve but I just couldn't..."

" Hey, it's okay ! Everything gonna be alright now, I'm here ! " Lucas caught her hand in an attempt of comforting her but she pushed him away .

" No it's not Lucas, can't you see ? Nothing will ever be alright again ! I'm a fucking mess ! I can't spend a day without crying and I can't sleep at night either because every time I close my eyes I see him. I see Billy bleeding out on the floor, I see my world collapsing with his last breath and I just don't know how to deal with this pain that never seems to stop. What can't it just go away ? Why ?"

Max starred  with at him with the most heart breaking look he had ever seen and he couldn't help but pulled her into a tight hug. She tried  to push him away again but this time, Lucas didn't let go and held her tighter .

" I'm so so sorry Max, I wish I could have seen what you were going through sooner. " He whisper softly to the red haired in his arms . " But why didn't you try to talk to me ? We could have faced this together ! "

" Because you deserve to be with a happy and emotionally stable girl capable to make you happy as well, not a burden like me ! " She added something under her breath and Lucas had to focus to hear her . " And I was scared you would think I was weak and then leave me. I couldn't stand to see anyone else abandoning me ".

Finishing her sentence, Max escaped the hug and quickly turned her back to her ex boyfriend. She couldn't stand to look him in the eyes after what she had just said. Whatever Lucas was feeling for her now, duplicity, disgust or mercy was just too much to handle.

"Max, look at me . " He begged, his voice breaking to see the girl he cared for the most like that ."

" You should go back to bed Stalker . It would be better for...

" I don't want to hear that anymore ! This is my turn to talk now so please, listen to me. " He grabbed her chin softly and plunged his chocolate brown eyes in her azur one. " I could never think that your weak Max because you're not. You're the strongest girl I have ever met, you have so much fire and strength in you and that's why I love you ! I'm so, so sorry for you brother and if I could do anything to take away the pain and handle it myself, I swear to you I wouldn't hesitate one second but the truth is, it's a journey only you can accomplish. But you don't have to do it alone. I'll be here every single steps of the way and if it means I have to stay up all night to make sure you get some sleep then fine, I'll do it. And you wanna know why ? Because I want the girl who drives me crazy everyday but in a good way, the one that always has my back no matter what, the stunning, amazing, surprising, perfect girl I fell in love with. And this girl, it's you Max. Always have and always will. It can't be anyone else. We gonna get through this together, like we always do. I know it's hurts but I am here and until the day I die, I will never give up on you. I love y-"

Lucas was interrupted by the red head crashing in his arms. Max wrapped her arms around the boy tightly and rested her head on his shoulder. Caught by surprised, he finally let go in her embrace and rubbed her back softly.

"I love you too. I was just too dumb and scared to lose you" Max whispered to her boyfriend, so relieved to feel his heat against her skin again. " But I realize I won't be able to make it without you Stalker".

Lucas held Max tighter and kissed her forehead as the red head was slowly starting to break down in his arms.

" It's okay my angel, I'm not going anywhere."

This was very cheesy I know but what the point in writing romantic one shots if it's not, right ? Anyway, just wanted to let you know that there will be a second part for this chapter, I'll update it in a few days. Enjoy your reading and please, drop some one shot ideas in the comments !
