After the four of us left Firestorm, we took a car to Lexa's house so we could pickup some fresh clothes. I was relieved to change out of my bloody clothes and Into Lexa's clothes which were unbelievably comfortable. She gave me this hoodie with the firestorm logo on it and I was delighted when I realized it had Lexa's smell.
"Clarke are you ready to go?" Abbys voice echoed from down stairs.
"Yeah I'm coming!" I yelled back.
When I got downstairs I saw that Lexa, Abby, and Marcus were all sitting on the couch together. They all stood up when they noticed me and there were smiles all around.
"So what's the plan Lex?" I asked, gently tugging on the strings of the hoodie to tighten the hood a little.
"Well I was thinking maybe you and I could go try and find Ontari. She won't feel comfortable with Abby and Marcus so you two will have to stay here." Lexa explained.
"Are you sure it's safe?" Abby asked, clearly concerned for us.
"I don't know that it is safe but I promise you I will protect Clarke." Lexa answered, green meeting blue as she gave me a small smile.
"Ok. I trust you two to be smart and stay safe." Marcus agreed. "Take my truck though. I don't want you being recognized." Marcus said tossing Lexa a set of keys.
"Uh. Ok. Thanks Marcus. We will see you two soon." Lexa nodded thankfully.
Lexa and I left her place and found a truck parked in the street which we quickly recognized as Marcus'. Lexa got in the drivers seat and I moved to get into the passengers seat next to her. I watched as she turned the keys to start the ignition and moved her hands to the steering wheel. I expected her to put the truck in reverse and start driving but she didn't. Lexa simply sat still with her hands on the wheel staring off into space ahead of her.
"Lex." I whispered, moving a hand to her shoulder so she'd look at me.
I watched as her piercing green eyes met mine and became soft.
"Are you ok?" I asked, moving the hand that was resting on her shoulder to brush some loose hair out of her face and tuck it behind her ear. Lexa took a big gulp and closed her eyes.
"I'm sorry." She whispered, in a voice so soft I wasn't even sure if I heard her.
"Lexa don't. I don't care about whatever has happened in the past. What I do care about is my daughter and your son who are hiding out somewhere wondering where their moms are. I care about Abby and Marcus who I know are willing to do anything to help and protect us. And I also care about you Lexa. I won't lose you. Please try not to lose yourself."
I watched as Lexa nodded her head, and moved her hands off of the wheel, lifting mine and holding them tightly. "We will solve this."
"I know....together."
Lexa gave me a small smile and brought my hands to her lips, placing a gentle kiss on each one. She then released them and moved her hands back to the steering wheel, putting the truck in reverse and starting to drive.
I know I'm staring at Lexa right now but I don't care at all. I love this woman. I'm not embarrassed by that at all. She doesn't have to know that yet although truthfully I think she already does deep down.
After about 30 minutes of driving, we pulled up to a big house on a Cul-de-sac in a nice neighborhood. Lexa put the truck in park and pulled out the keys, putting them into her pocket.
We both looked out at the house, and I could tell Lexa started to feel uncomfortable. She was doing that thing she does when she's nervous, where she runs her fingers through her hair frantically. I knew I had to calm her down so I put a hand on her thigh, then looked up into her dark green eyes I've fallen so in love with.
I didn't even need to ask what was wrong. It only took one look between us for Lexa to understand. "It's just...the last time I was here things didn't go so well."
"You can tell me if you want Lex."
Lexa looked out the window one last time and then shifted her body to face me better. "I am ready to tell you what happened."
I reached out my hand and Lexa grabbed onto it, intertwining our fingers. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, before opening them again and starting the story.
"I was 17. I had been running Firestorm for about 4 years and I was absolutely exhausted. I needed a break. I needed to feel like a normal teenager. So I decided to take a month off of work and just have some fun. Luna who you met on our first date was actually in high school at the time so she had a good friend group. It was her, Ontari, Anya and Indra. I was already friends with Luna and Indra, and Anya and Ontari both seemed nice as well so I started to hang out with them. I'd convince them to skip school and do ridiculous stuff with me. It would be anything from wandering around in the woods, to exploring abandoned buildings. We were all young, dumb, and curious."
I watched as Lexa swallowed hard and squeezed my hand. I knew she was getting closer to the hard part.
"I got pretty close with everyone in the group but there was something different about Ontari. We were getting close but not in the same way I was close with the other girls. I found out Ontari's mom was Nia which made things between us a little complicated. She knew that Nia wanted the company and we had a big fight one night. It actually ended with us kissing. Neither of us saw it coming but it just felt right. She was my first girlfriend."
Lexa paused again and looked into my eyes. I gave her a reassuring nod to show I was listening and she continued.
"Finally my month off of work was coming to an end. I was sad because I really liked having friends and a girlfriend and just being a normal teenager for once in my life. I knew I couldn't be with Ontari forever but I never expected what happened. She told me things were over. We got into this huge fight and I was sad and angry. I never loved her in the way I know I should have but I was still disappointed. She was my first girlfriend. I needed a distraction and there was a party being thrown by Roan, Ontari's brother. It was at his house which he and Ontari shared since Nia didn't want to deal with her children at the time so she just bought them a house and let them be. I knew that me attending would make Ontari furious so that's exactly what I did. It was a costume party. I think I went as dog or another animal of some type. I'm not sure. I thinks most of the party is blocked out from my mind."
"Indra, Luna, and Anya wanted to come with me to make sure I was ok but I wouldn't let them. I just wanted to drink my sorrows away and find someone else to fill the cracks Ontari left in my young teenage heart. There was this guy following me around the entire party. I couldn't see who he was because it was a costume party and he was wearing a mask. He cornered me in a bathroom and wouldn't let me out. I fought against him and tried to call for help but he was determined. About half an hour later he left and with him, a part of me as well."
Lexa stopped talking but that was all I needed to hear. I moved to pull her into a hug and I felt her cry into chest. I ran my fingers through Lexa's hair, trying to soothe her, and I know it must have worked because she snuggled further into my body. When I held Lexa in my arms, I felt so insanely protective. I won't let anyone hurt her ever again. They will have to get through me first.
