An: warning this part is a bit gory and brutal so maybe skip or something if you aren't good with that stuff. If you want you can message me and I can summarize what happens if you don't want to read.

Everything was dark and I heard the loud ringing in my ears from the gunshot. Then I felt my eyes open. I was alive. This can't be right. I heard a shot go off. That must mean-

I noticed Lexa still in front of me and I grabbed her quickly, turning her around, needing to make sure she wasn't shot. Our eyes met immediately and then we both frantically looked over each other, desperate to make sure the other was ok. I was surprised to find Lexa was perfectly fine. We were actually both perfectly fine. Who got shot then?

Suddenly we both heard a thump sound from behind us and we spun around to see Lincoln lying in the middle of the street in a pool of his own blood.

"Lincoln!" Lexa yelled, sprinting over to her brother. I ran after her and kneeled down next to Lexa as she moved so she could hold Lincoln's dying body in her arms.

"Lex." Lincoln coughed up, as blood started to pour out of his mouth.

"I'm here." Lexa cried, rocking him back and forth in her arms. "It's going to be ok. It's all going to be ok, I promise."

I looked at where most of the blood was coming from and I noticed Lincoln had been shot in the chest. I glanced up from Lexa and Lincoln and noticed agent Diyoza and a few other agents standing several feet away from us, pistols drawn, watching the whole interaction. It must have been them.

"I'm sorry." Lincoln barely got out, as he started to cough up more blood. "I'm so sorry for everything."

"Shhhh it's ok Linc." Lexa whispered, tears flooding down her cheeks like rivers. Maybe getting shot in the chest was the wake up call that Lincoln needed to finally understand everything he has done. His apology seems genuine and it's almost like it's making everything even harder.

"Tell Aden I love him forever." Lincoln gasped, trying to use his last breath for Aden. He used every single breath he had for that boy so it only made sense that his last one would be no different.

All of a sudden Lincoln's entire body fell completely limp, and he lost that spark of life that was always shinning in his eyes. They were empty now, and there was nothing we could do to restore that spark. He was gone.

"Lincoln?" Lexa questioned, trying to shake her brother awake. "Lincoln!" She yelled more aggressively. There was no response though. The disrupted streets of the once quiet neighborhood had fallen silent once again. With the silence, Lincoln had left us.

There were waves of conflicting emotions, washing over me again and again but the most powerful came from the loss of a man I once thought I knew so well. Of course I felt to some extent a great relief to still be alive and for Lexa to still be alive as well, but tonight a small part of both of us had died.

The death of Lincoln woods wasn't just the death of a criminal mastermind or the death of a once caring uncle and brother. The death of Lincoln Woods was so much more. It was in a way, the end of an era. The end of the pain and the end of the war our hearts have been fighting since day one. Finally with death, came a peacefulness like no other. This wasn't the calm before the storm, this was the calm after.

The worst part of the silence was the near acceptance of my own life ending. I had accepted that Lincoln was ready to pull that trigger. If Agent Diyoza hadn't killed him, I'm sure Lexa and I would both be dead. Part of me wishes that I was gone instead of him still. The Lincoln that was standing there, ready to pull that trigger wasn't the Lincoln I knew. But then again if tonight showed us anything it's that we might have never had the opportunity to truly know who Lincoln was, and we never will have that opportunity now that we've lost him.

"Clarke." I heard a broken voice whisper from my right. I turned to see Lexa, her eyes red and puffy and her heart shattered inside.

"I'm so sorry Lexa."

Lexa looked down at Lincoln who was still in her arms and carefully moved her hands to his face, swiping her hand down and shutting his eyelids. She held his body in her arms and closed her eyes whispering "I love you forever."

After a few moments, Lexa then stood up and let go of Lincoln, letting his body fall to the pavement gently . I also stood up and looked at the gruesome scene around us. Finally after a few more seconds of painful silence Lexa spoke. "He's dead." She stated, her voice cracking with the pain that fact had caused.

Lexa started sobbing again and she quickly moved to grab a hold of me. I tried to hold on to her as tightly as I could, trying to take as much of the pain away as I could manage, but I knew I wouldn't be able to shield Lexa from this one. This is a loss like no other.

The betrayal of a family member is like nothing else. Discovering that betrayal and losing that person all within minutes? That isn't a pain anyone should have to be familiar with. My heart breaks for Lexa and her loss but then a picture of Aden pops into my head and I feel it all even more.

The boy will be crushed when we tell him his uncle is gone. I don't know how we will even approach it. Then I remember the kids. We have left them at home alone. I pull away from the hug that Lexa and I shared and I can tell she knows something is wrong.

"The kids." I tell her, and it's like in that moment she remembers too.

"Don't worry about them." We hear a voice from behind us, say calmly.

We both turn around to see Agent Diyoza standing still, watching us carefully. "I sent agent Gabriel to your home to make sure they are safe. Both kids are sound asleep and unharmed."

There was a long and drawn out silence after Agent Diyoza spoke, and I knew that tensions couldn't possible be higher at the moment. Finally Agent Diyoza must have realized that neither Lexa or myself had anything to say so she continued instead.

"We found out about Lincoln a few hours ago when we caught Nia and Finn up in Italy. After some questioning and a bit of negotiating we were able to get them to tell us who orchestrated this entire plan and that's when we found out about Lincoln. I got here as soon as I could and he pulled out that gun on you two. I'm sorry for your loss but I hope you understand that what I did was completely necessary. I couldn't let you two die."

I wanted to tell Agent Diyoza that I understood and that she had to kill him but I knew I couldn't. I stood quietly at Lexa's side, waiting for her response. Finally after at least several minutes, Lexa cleared her throat and spoke up.

"I get it. You saved Clarke and I. My brother was about to kill us and I could see it in his eyes. If it weren't for you, we'd both be dead, so thank you."

Diyoza gave Lexa a small nod, and then shifted her focus to myself. "We will need statements down at the station tomorrow from both of you of course but you're free to go home. I'm sorry for everything you two have been through. No on should ever have to go through that but you've both survived and it's all over now. I hope that brings you some peace of mind tonight."

"Thank you Agent Diyoza." I said, giving her a thankful nod. She just gave us a sad smile and turned around again to go walk off and talk to her agents who were already surrounding Lincoln's body.

"Are you ready to go home Lexa?" I asked, not wanting to force Lexa to do anything she was uncomfortable with. If she wanted to stay here all night then I would stay here with her, holding her hand the entire time.

"I'm ready." Lexa said, reaching down and grabbing my hand. I have it a tight squeeze and then we both turned to look at Lincoln one last time.

"Goodbye brother." Lexa whispered, so quietly it was almost like no words were spoken at all. We stood in place for one last minute before turning back around again and walking home.

An: This was a hard one to write. Lincoln from the show is legit my 3rd favorite character and that's saying a lot. I promise from here on out we will be going up hill for a while and thanks to everyone who has been reading I love you all
