Today is Madi's birthday and it's going great so far. We started this morning off with a batch of chocolate chip pancakes that the kids absolutely loved and then Aden and I gave Madi her card and presents.
Aden had asked me for $10 earlier this week for Madi's present which I thought was really sweet because he didn't even have to get her anything. It turns out Aden didn't. When it came time for Aden to give Madi a birthday present he grinned, handing her the ten dollar bill. I smiled to myself and shook my head, realizing I should have seen this coming. Oh well, Madi seems to be happy with just cash.
Next it was my turn to give Madi a present and I gave her the LEGO set I had bought her yesterday. I watched as she gave Aden this excited look and they both ripped the box open grabbing the little mini-figures and playing with them.
Later in the morning, Raven and Octavia came to visit. They brought a box of cupcakes for the kids who immediately devoured them and we all just hung out for a while. I wanted to tell Octavia and Raven about Lexa coming by yesterday but I found it hard to tell anyone. The only people who know are Monty and Jasper and I'd like to keep it that way for now. I'm still so mad at her. It broke my heart to see her so broken on my doorstep but Aden and Madi come first. Lexa can wait.
The next people to arrive at the house were Bellamy and Murphy who also brought the kids cupcakes. I tried to explain that Madi and Aden have already reached their cupcake max for the day and that the boys should have better coordinated their gift ideas with Raven and Octavia first, but before I could even open my mouth I noticed Aden and Madi covered in frosting yet again.
I tried to be mad but I couldn't manage it. They are just so cute and happy right now. I won't take that away from them over a few cupcakes.
The next visitors to drop by the house were Monty and Jasper who happily walked through the front door with a giant box in hand.
"Please tell me those aren't cupcakes." I joked, helping them set the massive box down in the living room.
"We wouldn't know." Jasper shrugged. "It was sitting on the front door.
"These are cupcakes though." Monty added, pulling out yet another box of cupcakes, and setting it down on the kitchen table.
"It's probably a present from Abby and Marcus then. Do you want to open it Madi?" I asked, pointing to the box in the living room that was supposedly at my door step.
I watched as Madi nodded her head eagerly and quickly moved closer to the box. We all watched as Madi opened the flaps and her eyes widened as she peered inside.
"What is it Mads?" Octavia asked from her spot on the couch next to Aden.
Madi reached into the box and pulled out a tortoise.
"What the fuck?!" I exclaimed, quickly covering up my mouth when I realized what I had said.
"No it's not a duck mommy it's a tortoise." Aden giggled.
I couldn't help but grin. Aden is so freaking cute. I really need to learn to watch my mouth with the kids though. "Oh yeah. It is a tortoise. Look at you smarty pants." I chuckled. "I wonder who would be so silly as to get you guys a tortoise?" I asked with hidden passive aggressiveness, giving every single adult in the room a suspicious look. A tortoise is really not what I needed right now. This won't exactly be making my life any easier.
"Hey don't look at me." Bellamy defended himself. "If I had to get an animal I would have gotten a dog for sure."
"tortoises are my favorite animal though." Madi exclaimed, grinning at the large animal.
