I was buckling Madi up in her car seat in the back of the suv and Lexa was doing the same for Aden on the other side. It was a little hard to get them in since they were both squirming around a bunch. The kids were clearly very excited for our road trip to Colorado and I'd have to say their excitement was extremely contagious. It's been about a month since the kids last saw Abby and Marcus at Lincoln's funeral and they couldn't possibly be happier to go visit them at their new place in Colorado. The two are actually dating and living together and they are a super cute couple. We all ship it of course.

When Lexa was gone Abby and Marcus helped me with the kids a lot and they've grown with the kids into a kind of grandparent and grandchild relationship. I myself am very excited to see them as well. I told them everything that had happened with Lexa during the weekend they came for Lincoln's funeral and they understood everything Lexa did immediately. It made me feel bad how quick they were to understand Lexa's side of the story. I wish I would have been able to do the same when Lexa first showed up at my doorstep all that time ago.

Once the kids were settled in the back, Lexa got in the drivers seat and I sat in the passengers seat next to her. "Is everyone ready for our road trip?!" I asked, and the car erupted with cheering and clapping from not only the kids but Lexa too who seemed to be extremely exited.

"Let's go." Lexa smiled, starting the car and driving off. The first hour or so of the car ride was spent with music blasting and all 4 of us dancing and singing together. One of the absolute best parts of having kids is playing music that you love and trying to find out what kind of music taste they themselves have. I've always mentally prepared myself to be disappointed with Madi's music taste, knowing that almost no one could ever live up to my own ridiculously high music standards, but I was happily delighted to discover not only Madi totally having fun singing and dancing to my music, but Aden and Lexa as well.

After playing my entire road trip playlist, we were basically rocked out so we decided to play a game with the kids. We basically had to count all of the motorcycles we saw on the way to Colorado. After about half an hour we realized no one was riding a motorcycle today and with a total count of zero we gave up on that idea.

I looked to the back of the car and saw the kids were getting sleepy. I looked out the windshield to see large grey clouds gathering around. I knew it would only be a matter of minutes before it started raining and I was honestly looking forward to it. There is something soothing about the pitter patter sounds rain makes when it falls against car windows that really just sets my mind at ease.

I turned to Lexa just to make sure she was ok. "Are you still good driving Lex?"

"I am excellent Clarke. You should get some sleep."

I turned around to look at Madi and Aden who were already asleep. I then turned back to Lexa. "I won't let you be the only one awake, it's not fair."

"Don't worry about me Clarke. I'll be ok." Lexa assured me.

"Come on Lexa that nonsense. We do this like we do everything else."

Lexa smiled, taking a hand off of the steering wheel and grabbing one of my hands, intertwining our fingers. "Together."

"Yes." I nodded. "Together."

Eventually the rain started to fall and before we knew it, it was pouring. I watched as the sky darkened even more as more clouds spread out blocking the sun. The rain was starting to get harder and the roads slicker. It was becoming harder to see out the front and Lexa and I were immediately on the same page.

"I think we should look for a place to pull over Clarke, maybe we can find a place to stay for a little while as the storm passes." Lexa suggested.
