Weeks went by where everything was like normal for once.  I finally got used to seeing Cedric and Cho together, I didn't enjoy the sight but I realized that there was nothing I could really do about it.  Besides, when Cho was around Cedric she had to keep her snarky comments to a minimum, and I enjoyed seeing her hold back insults in front of him.

However, this certain day I didn't know how I'd hold up, it was my absolute least favorite day of the year.

Valentine's day.

February 14th was the most rubbish day on the calendar.  Everyone would smooch around and I'd sit there and endure all of it.  It was disgusting, to say the least.  Cedric and I had a tradition every Valentine's day, and that was to go around school and write a tally mark every time we'd see a couple snogging each other.  The person with the most tally marks would win, and the loser would have to buy them a box of chocolates.  I was the undefeated champion, and would enjoy chocolates every Valentine's day.  This year I knew things were going to be different, now Cedric was going to be one of the couples we'd tally, and I hated the thought of it.

I knew today was going to be awful when I walked over to the Great Hall and saw a large group of students huddled together, Cedric and Cho in the middle.

"Cedric, you shouldn't have!"  She cried, literally- tears streamed down her eyes.

"You deserve it, happy Valentine's day dear."

The girls all swooned, and I felt like I wanted to vomit.  Cedric being all mushy-gushy felt wrong, I liked him better when he'd playfully tease me, complimenting me just once in a while, because it made those compliments so much more special.

But this isn't my relationship, Cedric and Cho may like being all sappy with each other, I couldn't judge them for that.

Cho Chang held up a beautiful silver brooch, the letter C was carved in the center, and two blue jewels were on the sides of it.  It was a beautiful present, I had no idea how Cedric managed to afford it, but it was like him to go out of his way to get an extravagant gift for someone he cared about.

They embraced each other and that was my cue to exit.  Not only was that painfully hideous to watch, but I hated the sight of them hugging.  Cedric never hugged any girls other than me before he dated Cho, in a way I felt cheated on.

But he wasn't my boyfriend.  I had to stop thinking like he was.

I sat on a bench in a corridor, watching the stairs shift from side to side.  Luckily for myself, Draco Malfoy caught my eye, and my spirits were instantly lifted.

"Draco!"  I called, waving at him.

He turned around and waved back.  I saw him say goodbye to his friends as he walked over to me.

He pulled out a small box from his pocket and handed it to me.

"Happy Valentine's Day.  I wanted you to have this."

"Draco, you didn't need to do anything, we're not even dating!"

"I know," He smiled, "But I figured we could both use some cheering up today."

I took his hand and kissed him on the cheek.  It was a friendly kiss, nothing more.  Besides, I didn't really think I was Draco's type.

I opened the little box and saw a large ring, similar to Malfoys, but with a badger on it instead of a snake.

"Draco this is beautiful!"

"Promise me you'll never take it off alright?"

I put the ring on and admired it for a moment before answering, "I promise."
