I folded up Cedric's sweater neatly and got changed to go to the third task. Everyone wore their school uniforms, I paired mine with a scarf as it was particularly cool that day. I ran to the stands, but there was no sight of my best friend anywhere. I assumed he was still getting ready for the task, putting on his uniform, combing his hair and whatnot. Although, I did spot Amos standing, a wide grin spread across his face. I knew for a fact that if Cedric won the tournament we would never hear the end of it from Amos. Bragging about his son seemed to be his favorite hobby.
"Mr. Amos!" I greeted him as I walked over to where he was standing.
"You and your mister," he chuckled, "How are you holding up, dear?"
"I'm doing well. I'm excited to see Cedric, I sure do hope he wins the task."
"I take it that the two of you made up since Easter? I still have no idea what you two fought about."
"Well, we did make up. We just happened to fight again."
He shook his head, "You know what they say, fighting is love."
"Excuse me?" I asked, appalled by his statement.
"Don't be foolish. Cedric is my son, I know him better than anyone else does, including you. And I know how he feels about his best friend."
Ignoring Amos, I continued, "Do you know if he's coming out anytime soon? I have something of his that I'd like to return."
He looked at his son's sweater in my hands and then back at me, "I can give it to him if you'd like?"
"It's not just that. I'd like to speak with him before the tournament."
Before Amos could reply the band began playing a cheerful tune, which was his signal to find Cedric.
"Come with me dear, you can talk to him right before the task starts." He said, grabbing my arm and pulling me with him.
He dragged me into the dressing room where the champions were stretching and getting some last minute touches on their hair.
"Cedric!" I cried.
He looked puzzled, "How on Earth did you get in here?"
His dad flashed him a bright smile and Cedric rolled his eyes.
"Thanks a lot dad."
"I'll leave you two alone now, but don't stay too long. The task is in a couple minutes!"
Cedric sighed as I pulled him over to the corner of the room, "So, what is it that you wanted. Came to speak to Potter?"
"I wanted to return this to you." I said, handing him his sweater.
"Thanks," he replied coolly, "Now I won't get cold when I'm being attacked by mutant spiders in the maze. Is that all?"
"No, I- I read your letter."
"Did you, really?" He said with a hint of sarcasm.
"Yes. And you were right. About the whole 'friendship is just as dangerous as a relationship'. I don't want to fight anymore, Ced."
He sighed and placed his hand on my cheek, "Neither do I... I've been such a jerk. I don't know what came over me today, but I really am sorry."
He moved his thumb underneath my chin and brought my face to his,
"You know I love you, right?"
And slowly our faces made their way to each other, until our lips finally intertwined. An atomic bomb could have set off in the room and I wouldn't have noticed. I was too focused on the moment. Our faces had finally connected back to each other, and everything felt right. His lips melted onto mine. They felt warm, and soft, just as I had imagined them to be. I tried to break out of the kiss for air, but he grabbed my waist and pulled me closer.
