I continued watching the tournament, excited as ever.  It had been around an hour now and nothing too eventful had occurred.  Students were betting their monthly allowances, however I did not partake in this.  I couldn't care less about who won or not, I just wanted every champion to come back safely.

After a long period of anxiously waiting for something to happen, Fleur Delacour appeared from the maze.  Students assumed from her defeated expression that she had lost the tournament.  I pushed past students and ran up to her, I needed to know how Cedric was doing.

"Fleur!"  I shouted.

"What do you want?"  She spat, obviously she was not too happy about losing so quickly.

"Is Cedric okay?  Is he safe?"

"I think so, although I think that vey might have some trouble vith Krum, he's crazy."

"He is?"

"Yes, ze maze messes vith your mind.  Unfortunately, it got to Krum."

"Oh, okay.  Thank you."

"Of course."

I ran back to my seat and sighed, I was glad that Cedric was okay, but with the news about Krum I grew more and more uneasy.

It was not long until Krum came out of the maze as well, he was immediately sent to Madame Pomfrey's.  This meant that it was only Cedric and Harry left, and Cedric had quite a high chance of winning.

An hour more had passed and Cedric nor Harry had not come out of the maze.  Even Dumbledore looked a bit tense.  The sun was already setting and there was no sign of either of them.  Nobody thought that the third task would have lasted more than two hours, and when the moon started to brighten the dark night sky, we were all curious as to what was happening inside of the maze.

"Do you reckon they've killed each other?"  One student asked.

"I'm sure it's not that," Susan answered, "Maybe they're stuck on an obstacle."

"Stuck for four hours?"  Hannah questioned.

Susan bit her lip, "I'm not sure, but it's a better theory than 'they've killed each other'."

My leg started to twitch and I noticed myself getting nervous.  Although it was an outrageous idea, there was a chance that Cedric and Harry hurt each other.  If Krum could go insane, so could they.

Before anyone could say anything else, Cedric and Harry appeared on the field outside of the maze, goblet in hand.

Everyone cheered loudly as the band began to play once more.  I smiled at Cedric trying to get him to notice me, but he was lying down still next to Harry.  He looked a bit bruised, I had no idea what had happened to him, but he was here and that was all that mattered.

Harry began to wail, another student screamed bloody murder, and when I realized what had happened my heart dropped.

No.

"Cedric!"  I yelped, as I jumped down from the stands and ran up to him.

Please don't let this happen, please don't let this happen.

"Cedric!"  I knelt beside him, "Cedric, listen to me!"

His eyes were wide and his mouth hung open, Harry cried loudly as I tried to process everything.

"Cedric, listen to me!  Cedric, please!"  I cried.

"Please don't leave me, Ced."  A tear ran down my cheek and fell on his.  Everyone was panicking as Amos Diggory sprinted over to Harry, Cedric and I.

"That's my boy!"  He shouted, "That's my son!"

He hugged the body and sobbed, the one thing in his life that mattered most to him was gone.

I looked at Harry, "You promised me you would keep him safe!  You lied to me!"

He cried, "I couldn't do anything!  It was Voldemort who killed him, Voldemort is back!"

Everyone gasped at these words, had You-Know-Who really returned?

I looked at my best friend who was on the floor, held his cheek and bawled, "I can't lose you, please come back.  Wake up, Ced."

He didn't wake up.  I clutched onto his body and cried. "Come back to me, I love you so much, please don't leave me."

Dumbledore ran down and took Harry by the arms, "Come with me."

Harry and Dumbledore left , leaving Amos and I alone with Cedric's body.

I didn't have anything to say to him, and he couldn't bring himself to say anything at all.  He just kept crying over his late son.

Madame Pomfrey came over to us and took Cedric's body, and I followed her into the hospital wing.  After many efforts of trying to revive Cedric, she looked at the two of us with tears in her eyes.

"Dead."  She announced.

"No, no!"  I wailed, "He can't be dead! There has to be a way to save him."

I walked up to my best friend and held his hand.  It was cold, and no longer had the warmth and life that once was inside of it.

I kissed him on the forehead, leaving a puddle of tears on his face.

"Goodbye, Cedric."

--

"Cedric was a person who exemplified many of the qualities that distinguish Hufflepuff House, he was a good and loyal friend, a hard worker he valued fair play.  His death affected you all, whether you knew him well or not."

I sat silently as Dumbledore gave his memorial to Cedric.  His mother did not take the news very well, fortunately it did not affect her health.  Harry had given Amos the money to pay for her medical bills, and the rest he gifted to the Weasley twins.  Cho Chang was especially distraught by his death.  Although they did not end well as a couple, they were still very close.  Dumbledore announced to the school that it had been Voldemort who had killed him, and that he had finally returned to power.  Nobody took this news well, others simply refused to believe it.  I believed that it was true.

Professor Moody turned out to be an imposter.  He was Barty Crouch Jr. using a polyjuice potion to pretend to be the famous Auror.  He was sentenced to receive the dementor's kiss.  I felt no sympathy for him whatsoever, he ruined my life.

Nobody spoke to me since the Triwizard Tournament, and I had no motivation to speak to anyone.  Draco would stand beside me and hold my hand, but that was about it.  He knew that I was not ready to talk about anything at the moment.

On the last day of school everyone said their goodbyes to each other as the three schools got ready to depart back to their homes.  I saw Harry standing alone, at a balcony, looking up at the blue sky.

I stood next to him, "I'm sorry for getting mad at you Harry.  This was not your fault."

He tried to smile but couldn't bring himself to, "I'm sorry too."

We didn't say anything more.  I knew that Harry did not want to talk about the situation just as much as I did, so I did not bother asking him any questions about the event.  Instead, I took his hand and squeezed it tightly, and with this he was finally able to produce a smile.  I rested my head on his shoulder as we watched the Beauxbatons carriage fly across the morning sky.
