Twenty-Three.

"Oh man goddamn.", Kennedy mumbles looking at all of her notifications.

"My moms called me.", August says looking at all the missed calls from her.

"Really?", she asks looking up from her phone and at him.

"Yeah, I'll be right back.", he says getting up and walking out to the balcony.

Standing out there for a few seconds, he goes to his mother's contact and calls her. After the second ring, she answers.

"August?", her voice rings through the phone.

"Hey mama.", August says.

"Um, congratulations on the engagement.", she says.

"Thank you.", he nods.

"Hey, I uh, I know we've never really had the best relationship, but I just wanted to let you know I love you. I'm proud of the man that you've become, and I'm sorry for everything.", she says making tears weld up in his eyes.

"I'm proud of you"... Those were the words that he'd been longing to hear since he was a kid, and now that he has, he could finally do what he's been wanting to for years, but never really had the push for. Rebuild his relationship with the woman who gave him life.

"Thank you, mama. I love you too and it's okay, I am who I am today partially because of you, so thanks.", August scoffs wiping his tears.

"You're welcome.", Shelia chuckles. "So, how's the girls?", she asks.

"They good, growing like weeds everyday.", he says smiling.

"Hey, you okay?", Kennedy asks walking out with a towel around her head and touching his shoulder as he nods then points to his phone.

"Thank you babe.", he mouths as she leans down and kisses his cheek before walking back inside.

"Damn.", Kennedy mumbles looking at the numbers from her brand website.

"What?", August asks putting his phone in his pocket and walking back inside.

"Sales are through the fucking roof babe, and it hasn't even been 24 hours.", she says organizing her orders.

"I'm proud of you CEO.", he says sitting next to her and pecking her lips.

"Thank you, I'm proud of you too. How'd the conversation with your mom go?", she asks typing away at her laptop.

"Really well, I should've done it a long time ago. Speaking of which, we're going to Houston soon.", he says.

"Really?", she asks smiling.

"Yes, baby. We going so I can visit my moms and so she can meet my wonderful fiancée.", he says smiling.

"Yay!", Kennedy exclaims tackling him on the bed and showering him with kisses.

"Babe.", August says laughing and accepting her kisses.

"I'm so happy for you baby, building your relationship with your mom again.", she says smiling, "So when are we going to Houston?", she asks sitting up.

"Can I use your laptop real quick?", he asks.

"Mhm.", she says putting it on his chest.

"Wait, I really forget that I have this shit.", he says giving her laptop back and grabbing his phone.

"Have what?", she asks.

"A private jet.", he says.

"Oh shit you do, and yo ass had me flying coach. Hate you.", she says rolling her eyes.

"Oh you hate me now? Give me my fucking ring back.", he says holding his hand out and typing away at his phone.

"No I don't hate you, I love you so so much.", Kennedy says kissing all over his face.

"Mhm, plus I ain't even have yo ass flying coach. That was ya girls doing since she bought the tickets. Knowing you, if there was a class above first class, you would've bought tickets there.", August says shaking his head.

"Like duh. I'm bougie and I'm proud.", she says smiling.

"Bougie as all hell. You wanna go early October?", he asks.

"Yeah, just let me know the dates and I'll have Ash take over for that time.", she says grabbing her phone and texting Ash.

"Aight, so we will be leaving Friday the 2nd, and coming back Wednesday the 7th.", he says.

"Alrighty.", she says sending the text to Ash.

"Bae say hey.", August says recording Kennedy.

"Heyyy.", Kennedy says looking up from her laptop and smiling then looking back down at it.

"Look at her, my CEO of a fiancée.", he says zooming in on her.

"Hear that? Fi-an-cèeeee bitch.", she says raising her left hand, wiggling her ring finger, and smiling.

"I know that's right.", he chuckles ending the video and saving it, "What you doin?", he asks moving next to her and putting his head on her shoulder.

"Organizing orders, I'm gonna start packing them up Monday. You wanna help?", she asks.

"Of course I do, yo gone stress ya self out if you do all of that on your own.", he says.

"Yeah you're right, thank you baby.", she says pecking his lips.

"Anytime, literally.", he chuckles, making her smile.

Monday

"No, Ash told me someone broke in and trashed the salon, I can't believe this shit.", Kennedy says rushing to get her stuff together before heading out.

"Baby, baby, baby. I know, okay? I know, but just breathe. Please.", August says stopping her movements as she starts to calm down a little bit just by his touch.

She closes her eyes and takes a couple deep breaths before opening them again.

"Ready?", he asks.

"Yeah, let's go.", she sighs, grabbing her backpack before walking out.

"Stop crying baby, everything's alright.", August says rubbing Kennedy's back as she cries, while trying not to as he drives.

"It took me so much to get this shit babe, I was at it from the moment I turned 20 and didn't get it until I was almost 21.", Kennedy hiccups, starting to sob, "I just wanna know who and why?", she asks as her leg starts to bounce up and down.

Knowing what that means, August stops touching her. If her leg starts bouncing while she's crying, she's going from sad to mad as fuck. Don't touch her, don't look at her wrong, and your best bet is just to not say shit.

"Oh my God.", Kennedy says tearing up again as she steps into the broken salon door and sees all the damage done to it.

"Baby, I am so sorry.", August says pulling her in for a hug and looking around as she cries in his chest, "We gone fix it, okay? We gone fix it.", he says looking down at her and starting to cry softly himself.

They're connected in every way possible, especially their feelings. So whatever she feels, he feels and vice versa. He's as strong as he can be for her, until she cries. When she cries, he breaks down right along with her.

"I swear I'm gonna find out who did this.", August mumbles wiping his tears then holding Kennedy's face in his hands, "You hear me? I'm gonna find out who did this, and them niggas gone pay.", he says wiping her tears with his thumbs.

"Okay.", she says softly.

"Aight.", he says pecking her lips a couple times and hugging her again.
