Circa 1765

Today was the day that your parent's were dumbfounded with news that made them fall completely miserable. To your dismay, this would be the start of a love story that would completely break your ties between your family.

You were sitting in the parlor with your family as you heard a raspy knock of the wooden door at the front of your house. Your father perked up, it was his duty to answer the door. He sighed heavily, before placing his cup of tea on the tabletop before making his way to the front of the house.

Meanwhile, you couldn't distinguish who happened to be at the door but his greeting words sounded along the lines of this,

"Good evening sir, I'm Arthur Kirkland—a British soldier. According to King George it has been in place of the colonists to have a place for me to reside in this household. For all other barracks in this proximity have been occupied. Your refusal to comply may result in consequences due to disobeying the orders of the king."

You gulped, and suddenly a memory of your father speaking earlier of some sort of Quartering Act being passed flooded your mind. Your family dreaded this idea, for they were sick and tired of the British rule and were devoted patriots. You on the other hand, paid no mind to their political talks and you really could care less.

You heard an angry shout from your father. Before he could find himself too disgruntled, he ordered the soldier to follow him to foyer where you and your family had been sitting.

Followed by your father you seen the young soldier—messy blonde hair and emerald green eyes. His uniform was rather clean considering he was a soldier with hefty duties; the coat of the uniform glistened a bright red.

The most striking feature of him all however, was his extremely large and bushy eyebrows.

Before your father had a chance to introduce you to the new soldier in your house, he whispered a small phrase in your ear. "Talk less smile more, a friend of me taught me that. That could be useful for this young man we can't trust him with our secrets."

Soon your father went on to introducing the soldier to your household, before adding one more comment to him that he made very clear. "If you are to speak to my daughter, ever, your overpriced tea is not the only thing that will be found in the harbor! You're wicked lucky we even have a spare room for you,"

You looked up at your father with a horrified expression, you couldn't figure out why he was so serious about the Brit not speaking to you. Though a soldier for the opposing side, that didn't make him any less human and any less trustworthy than the ordinary man. "Father, I'm sure I can handle my own issues." You insisted, before proceeding to visit your room for the evening.

The night was rather awkward considering the new change to your family, they were really hoping to escape the wrath of King George, but sadly that wasn't possible. Dinner was silent, and no one spoke a word since the soldier had joined you all. The only reason you had even caught the name of the soldier residing in your house was because of his brief introduction when he ordered to stay in the house with your family. After dinner everyone went to their rooms shortly after without a word which wasn't typical at your house. Arthur's room managed to be the spare bedroom next to yours. Your parents were untrusting of the soldier being so close to you, but it was the only vacant spare room in the house.

Meanwhile, a storm had brewed within the city, and the loud thumping of raindrops on the shutters from the exterior left you wide awake in your bed. A night like this would usually call for one where you would sit on the rocking chairs from outside as you watched the droplets flood the grass. It was clearing to the mind after all, so that's what you decided to do.
