"Alastor?" I knocked on his dorm room door, leaning in to try and hear what was going on inside.
When there wasn't a peep to be heard, I knocked again, "Come on Alastor, I know you're in there."
Finally, I heard a shuffling sound, and a disheveled and depressed looking Alastor opened the door. My heart broke at the sight of him. He looked like a puppy that someone had kicked.
Without a word, I hugged him. Wrapping his arms around me, he hugged me back as if his life depended on it. We stood like that for several minutes, not saying a word. Somehow, it felt like words just didn't have a place here. They had done too much damage already.
Finally, Alastor stepped back and sighed, "So you heard..."
"I heard a vicious lie from Cassy," I replied, leaning against the doorframe, "The question is how do we want to fix this?"
Alastor raised an eyebrow, "Fix this?"
I gave him a Cheshire grin of my own, "Did you think I was going to allow her crap to slide?"
