Chapter 12: The Hyperion Corporation

It had been about a month since the Vault Hunters managed to destroy the Crimson Lance Armory and killed my father in cold blood. In that time I had assumed command of the Crimson Enclave division of the Crimson Lance. However I was still feeling really down mentally.

Not only was I still mourning the deaths of not only my mother but also my father now as well. But I still hadn't received orders from any of the higher-ups at Atlas either. I briefly sent out a message to reach any other Crimson Lance personnel to check if they were having a similar problem.

I got numerous responses and it turns out, yes they were. It seems with our main armory destroyed, Atlas decided that rather than send an extraction ship, they thought it necessary just to leave us all stranded here on Pandora.

Since I was technically the highest ranking Lance operative on Pandora, I called the Lance holdouts back to the Crimson Enclave so we could regroup. To make matters even worse there was actually some unknown assailant going around, wiping out entire Crimson Lance squads without mercy. 

Anyway, after calling the remaining holdouts back, we formed a singular organization and named ourselves the Crimson Lance Reborn. Which leads us to what happened today.

I was sat in my office alone as usual, it was once my mothers but of course after she died, I took over her position.  Since I got no new orders from the higher ups, this mostly involved sitting in my revolving chair and thinking to myself.

However today my thought process was interrupted when I heard a knock on the door. I tiredly said "Enter." The door opened and a Crimson Lance Infantry came in. I sighed before saying "If this is just another Skag who's gotten loose or a Bandit tribe have attacked then just turn around. You lot can deal with them no problem, without interrupting me."

The Lance soldier stuttered out "B-but sir. It's worse." I looked up at him and asked "How worse?" The soldier gulped before saying "Some kind of military force as set up a camp not to far from here. They aren't with us and they bare the symbol of the Hyperion Corporation."

I just looked at him for a moment before saying "That is worse yes." He asked "What are we going to do sir?" I pointed "Here's what we're going to do private. We're going to gather a squad and we're going to wipe that camp out before they become a major threat to us."

The soldier saluted before saying "Yes sir! I will gather a few squads and take them with me to-" I put my hand up to cut him off before saying "I will be coming with you. I won't cost anymore of my men, I've lost too much already since coming here."

He saluted again before I followed him out. I rounded up two squads of soldiers. The first was bigger consisted of Infantry, Defenders and Engineers, they would storm the camp head on. The second consisted of a Pyro, Chemical Trooper, Shock Trooper and a Rocketeer, they would keep further back and pick off the Hyperion Soldiers with elemental snipers.

We didn't even need the Lancers as the camp was actually right outside the Crimson Enclave. And due to our numbers it didn't take long before an all out gunfight broke out between the Hyperion soldiers and my own Crimson Lance. I had to admit, they were quite well trained.

Now the soldiers themselves, while being surprisingly well trained and in fact, being very similar to the Crimson Lance soldiers, we did outnumber them quite a bit. I had the engineers place Scorpio Turrets down which began shooting at the soldiers.

However soon I noticed something interesting, some Hyperion Heavy Gunners appeared and then threw out their own Scorpio Turrets which countered ours. I muttered out a brief "Geez, try something original."

Even with their own Scorpio Turrets, we still massively outnumbered the Hyperion Personnel as we continued to keep killing them. However soon more soldiers appeared out of small hut, doors. These ones wielded riot shields and higher grade armor than the ones before.

I guess Hyperion's military was full of surprises, but even then. It didn't change the fact that we still outnumbered them at least 4-1. Even these guards with their Riot Shields were soon being overpowered.

However my attention turned to a large man walking towards me. He wore heavier armor than all the soldiers here did and he sported a Riot Shield much like the guards but he definitely was the guy in charge around here.

He came closer before placing his hand up and speaking in a commanding tone "Halt! Put down your weapons! The Hyperion Corporation does not wish to harm them!"

I turned to him before saying "No. I don't think I will." I then shot at him but his shield protected him, even from the corrosive rounds. However I continued to shoot at him until I broke through his normal shield and from there I just avoided his riot shield until he was dead.

After that is was easy, mopping up the remainder of the Hyperion Soldiers and with them dead we just returned back to the Crimson Enclave without a word.

Little did we know that this was merely the calm before the storm.
