Chapter 36: Assembling the Compass

Y/N POV

"But first allow me to introduce myself. I'm Captain Scarlett."

She gave slight bowed before asking "Why are your eyes purple?" I responded "Because of this." I revealed my staff to her as she looked at it for a second. I continued speaking "This is an ancient relic. The reason I'm after the treasure is on the hunch that it may possess more artifacts like this."

Captain Scarlett stared at my staff for a second before turning back to me. "Sound valuable. But you forget that we need to compass pieces first, I have one but I still need the other four. I would go but your like expendable as hell so off you pop!"

I put my hand up "Now I have a better idea here. I'm almost certain that a certain band of Vault Hunters will arrive here also searching for the treasure, so here's what I propose. When they arrive, which I know they will, you invite them here and task THEM with finding the compass pieces. Once they have them all we kill them then it's just a matter of finding the treasure and we sort things out from there. What do you say?"

Captain Scarlett grinned before she agreed "Sounds fun, but I may or may not still stab you in the back later." I grinned myself before saying "I don't doubt that for a second."

Timeskip...

Just as I predicted the Vault Hunters turned up in Oasis and cleared out some pirates that had attacked. And as was the plan, Captain Scarlett invited them to her ship in Wurmwater in order to help find the treasure.

In truth only two of the Vault Hunters actually showed up, that being the commando and the young girl who's names I had learnt were actually Axton and Gaige respectively. To further conceal that Captain Scarlett was working with me, I kept hidden below deck until I was certain that they were gone.

Scarlett told them about the compass and she then instructed them both to Hayter's Folly where the second piece of the compass was located. From my eavesdropping I was found out it was in the possession of a rival pirate who called himself Sandman.

Once the Vault Hunters had gone on their way, me and my guards returned above deck and watched with a grin as they sped away in their Skiff. Captain Scarlett asked "Are you sure these Vault Hunters are capable of taking out Sandman and getting the second piece?"

I turned to her and answered with blunt honesty "I'm almost certain, besides if they can't, I'll just deal with it, as per your original intensions. No worries though, either way that compass piece will be in our possession soon."

I then asked "What's the relationship between you and Sandman again? You seemed eager to get him out of the picture." Captain Scarlett responded "Well aside from the fact he's a rival, the two of us used to be like BEST buds but then when we came across some of Captain Blade's old notes I tried to stab him in the back, lost my leg and here we are."

She then said "Morale is, NEVER betray your friends. Unless your certain you have the upper hand." I nodded as we continued to wait.

And sure enough Axton and Gaige soon returned with the second compass piece as I once again hid from their sight. I didn't want them to notice me hiding and ruin my plan. Luckily Captain Scarlett instructed them to go after a second piece that was on a Hyperion convoy.

That one was quick and easy, done in a matter of moments. However once that was returned she then sent the Vault Hunters to an area called the Rustyards to see a hermit named Herbert who would apparently know where to get that final compass piece.

Once the Vault Hunters were gone I approached Captain Scarlett again and asked "I could tell from how you talked about Herbert that you have some sort of history as well." Captain Scarlett looked disgusted for a moment before responding.

"I invited Herbert onboard the ship a while back because the old man has loads of knowledge of Captain Blade's treasure. However he developed a creepy obsession with me, it got really disturbing so I kicked him off the ship and have no regrets now."

I let out a quick "Eugh" She responded with a quick "Yeah." As once again we just waited and sure enough yet again, the Vault Hunters returned and I had to hide so my plans wouldn't be ruined.

Once the whole compass was repaired, Scarlett sent the Vault Hunters to the Magnys Lighthouse where the location of the treasure would be revealed. Now all me and Scarlett would need to do is wait until we could betray the Vault Hunters then I would be able to dispose of her and get whatever lied within the treasure.

What I didn't anticipate was me, Scarlett and the Vault Hunters all being eaten by the Leviathan!
