Chapter 17: Confronting the Meriff

Y/N POV

Upon returning to Concordia, we all headed directly  to a man stood near the Fast Travel machine. Now I'm certain this was Jack given that he looked identical to the other Jack who I'd been working with as of late, except he had these shock cannons on his arms.

Upon approaching him, he noticed me and said "So your our newest Vault Hunter hmm? Nice to meet you. Names Jack. Would give you a proper introduction BUT we have a Meriff to speak to." He all stayed quiet before he then said "Screw this. Let's go pay him a visit. Like I said don't get trigger-happy. If he's got info, I don't want to hear him gurgle it through blood. He has horrible diction to start with."

Wilhelm pointed out "The elevator's still barred."  Jack sarcastically said "That's just great!" Moxxi then contacted us over the echo I do have a recording of the Meriff talking sexy to Sereena, the custom bot's favorite squeeze."

I had seen posters for Sereena dotted around Moxxi's bar. I think she was a Geisha Bot of sorts but at the end of the day that didn't matter.

 Jack initially dismissed the idea saying "Nah that wouldn't work." Again it was Wilhelm who suggested "What about the Meriff recording? Could use that to blackmail him." Jack exclaimed 

"Yatzee! Let's go find ourselves one son-to-be outraged Customs CL4P-TP! Get that recording ready Mox!" We all went in search of CU5TM-TP and we found him banging on some door. Jack approached him and yelled "Hey Lawbot!" CU5TM-TP turned to us and said "You've just interrupted an officer carrying out his duty."

Jack didn't care as he responded "Uh we're here to file a complaint. Your awesome Meriff's been breaking the law. We have evidence." CU5TM-TP seemed interested now "Breaking the law? Why don't you tell me all about it? Thank you for your concern citizen rest assured it shall be logged. Long live the Meriff!"

Jack cued "Mox! Hit it!" Suddenly the recording of the Meriff 'sweet-talking' Sereena, if you could call it that, started blaring out across Concordia. This seemed to really piss off CU5TM-TP who exclaimed furiously "The Meriff's interfacing with my Sereena?! NOOO! I feel so betrayed ! And according to my records, the Meriff doesn't have the appropriate paper work to engage in such activities. Which kinda makes my outrage morally justifiable! Awesome!"

Jack decided to use this situation to our advantage "Hey I'm with you pal! Word is he's got another appointment booked with Sereena right now." The Meriff then came on over the speaker, trying to justify himself but it was truly pathetic. Nisha even asked "Is this guy for real?" I muttered "Sure seems like it."

CU5TM-TP was ranting about how the Meriff didn't have an 'Interorganic Fraternization license' To be honest I didn't really want to know what that was. We all got into the elevator as CU5TM-TP pressed several buttons in an attempt to get us moving however he accidentally sent us down instead of up.

Jack was quick to scald the officer who claimed he was kidding before pressing more buttons and sending us back up instead, directly to the Meriff's office. Upon entering we heard a voice saying "Warning, trespassing on Government property will result in your immediate death. Thank you."

Turrets came down from the ceiling as we were jumped by Scavs. The Meriff tried to get us to turn around but just like before he was just a pathetic, scared, little man, with a big ego and no balls to back it up.

The more Scavs we took out and the closer we got, the more scared the Meriff seemed to get. Eventually we arrived at the Meriff's office door but it had an energy shield over it. Jack exclaimed "Officer get this door open!"

CU5TM-TP responded "I don't take orders from civilians. However, as I was already about to do that..." The Meriff was now just a sniveling rat begging for mercy. CU5TM-TP announced "Huxter T Meredith. You are hereby under arrest for violating Elpis ethical code 3110. Forbidding unlicensed interplay between- OH MY GOD! YOU STOLE MY GIRLFRIEND YOU MEATBAG!"

CU5TM-TP then threw himself at the door which fried his circuits for a time but also disabled the energy field. You know I have to respect his devotion to his girl. Anyway with the field down it was time to finally confront the Meriff.

We all entered his office as he was typing away at his computer. He turned to us and said "Jack, Jackie! Haha, you should have said you were in town! You shoulda said so!"

Jack leaned forward and glared at him before saying "I traced the signal that took down our systems on Helios. Guess what? It came from here, your office!" The Meriff asked innocently "Signal?" Jack responded "Sig-nal!"

The Meriff blurted out "She made me do it!" Jack continued to question him, still using that scary, intimidating persona. "Where did she come from? And please, lie to me. I really want you to lie to me."

The Meriff was terrified now "I don't know! W-what are you gonna do to me?" Jack started laughing before saying "Pfff! Nothing! I was just messing with you. Get the hell outta here." Jack turned around and walked off saying "I've been thinking, there's a way back to Helios."

Suddenly the Meriff pulled out a Jakobs Revolver and attempted to shoot Jack in the back but all his shots missed. Now Jack snapped as he yelled "I WAS GONNA LET YOU LIVE YOU DUMB BASTARD! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!"

He then fired several shots from his shock cannons at the Meriff, all of which hit him square in the chest, killing him instantly. Jack commented on how he found that invigorating before approaching the Meriff's terminal.

He started explaining to the others about how we would need to build a robot army to take back Helios. I decided to speak up. "While you lot handle that, I'll stick around, if anything worth noting comes up at all. I'll let you know. Contact me when it's time to storm Helios."

Jack looked up from the terminal before responding "Yeah, sure. Take Aurelia and other Jack with you. I don't think we'll need six people to sort out this army. And you may encounter trouble."

I shrugged before saying "Well okay then." I left the Meriff's office with Aurelia and other Jack, I'm glad I was assigned them because out of the six, they were the ones I got along with the best. Now there was one order of business that needed dealing with first.
