The first games of the Spring prelims were finally taking place. The boys were nervous as hell. Half of them needed to throw up while the other half were teasing those that needed to throw up. Kiyoko, Yachi, and I even made a bet of who would crack first and when. Kiyoko won, stating that it would be Hinata on the bus. I thought he would at least hold out until we got to the gym. His inability to hold his breakfast cost me 1000 yen. Yachi had faith in the boys but unfortunately, it was faith that they did not deserve. Asahi kept his head in my lap trying to steady his nerves but it wasn't really working. I took off his headband and ran my fingers through his hair and he finally seemed to relax. Noya and Tanaka tried to receive the same treatment but Asahi was quick to throw a volleyball at the two of them.
"Leave her alone. Can't you see she is busy?" I laughed at the change in his attitude. We remained like this until the boys went to change for their first game. After a brief warmup and slight face-off with Ohgi Minami, the boys took the game rather easily. I stood in the stand with Yachi. Since Kiyoko was the first manager and I really only helped the boys with warmups, we agreed it would be best for her to remain on the bench. Of course, that didn't stop me from popping down every once in a while to speak to the boys while they had a short break. I also moved a lot to make comments about the game. Technically I wasn't allowed on the bench but the rules didn't say anything coming down to speak to the coaches briefly.
The second game of the day was against this team with a ridiculously tall ace. Despite his height as his ultimate weapon, the boys took the game in straight sets. Soon it was time to head back home.
"I'm going to check for anything we might have left behind," Kiyoko said.
"I'll go do it, Kiki-chan. I feel like I need to move some more." I dropped my bag off with Asahi before jogging back inside and heading for the gym. Once inside, I saw a cute lunch box that I knew belonged to Hinata. I scooped it up, shook it slightly to see if there was any food inside but was disappointed at the lack of snacks. I sighed and turned around, just as some boys from another team bumped into me.
"Hey, you know, you're really pretty. Can I get your number?" His hair was dyed blonde and I took note of his piercings. A tongue piercing was pretty cool but not when the person who had it was invading my personal space.
"No thanks. I have a boyfriend," I replied and tried to move around him.
"Really? I don't see any boys around. Besides, it's not like he'd ever know." I rolled my eyes in disgust, ready to tell him off again when a certain tangerine slid in between me and Mr. Piercing.
"Excuse me! This is my lunch box!" Hinata was quick to turn me around and head outside. "C'mon Y/n-senpai! Let's go!" The boy was practically shaking with fear.
"Wait a second, we were still talking!" Mr. Piercing pushed Hinata and stood close to me once again.
"Listen here you little-" I was interrupted by Hinata separating the two of us once again, this time with a jump.
"Y/n-senpai is our beloved manager and is dating our ace. Please leave her alone!"
"Oh, you're the one that defeated the guy that was 2-meters tall," That seemed to distract Mr. Piercing because soon he was talking about volleyball. I turned to Hinata once they left and handed him his lunch box.
"Thank you, Shoyō-Kun. Those guys were creepy."
"We have to tell the team! What if they come back and try and kidnap you?" Hinata's mind wandered as we walked out of the gym together.
"It's fine Shoyō-Kun. You handled them very well. I'm proud to call you our future ace." That calmed him down immediately and his eyes sparkled.
"Really Y/n-senpai?"
