Coach Nakano was going to be the death of me. After my short facetime call with Asahi and a quick goodnight text to my father, I passed out immediately. It felt like I had only slept for two minutes because I was woken up at 8 am by Mako. Asahi was right. I feel horrible right now. My muscles are sore and my arms and legs are bruised. I feel like I fell down 14 flights of stairs repeatedly. Even a very hot shower didn't do much to make me feel better. I sluggishly changed into my volleyball gear before meeting the team for breakfast.
"You look like death," Daiki said from beside me.
"Thanks. I feel like death too." I mumbled before reaching for some coffee. I hope it will make me feel a bit better.
"If you thought yesterday was bad, just wait. Nakano will show you what bad really is." I looked around the table and felt the looks of pity from the boys. I popped a couple of pills of Tylenol before tying my hair away from my face.
"Well, let's get to work then."

Daiki was right. I must have done something terrible to Nakano in a past life because now, I was suffering.
"OI! NEWBIE! I WANT TO SEE BETTER FORM! WHERE DID YOUR REFLEXES FROM YESTERDAY GO?" I heard him shout from the sidelines. He had stopped yelling at his own team completely. I received it all. I had to fight to hold my tongue. He had to be testing me. He was waiting for me to break.
I dove and received a ball beautifully before standing up and running to spike. I was playing with Daiki and this first-year middle blocker named Chigaya Eikichi. My eyes scanned the court quickly and I immediately sent the ball down in the far left corner of the opposite court. This might have been my first clean play of the day.
"YES! Finally! That's what I like to see, newbie, keep it up!" Everyone in the gym stopped and turned to look at the coach. "WHAT ARE YOU ALL LOOKING IT? DO YOU WANT TO RUN LAPS? GET BACK TO YOUR GAMES!"
"Well, miss. pinpoint-ace got a compliment from our demon coach. He never gives out compliments. Congratulations, Y/n. He might like you." Daiki tugged on my hair teasingly before turning back to the game. I gave a brief bow to our coach before doing the same.
The games of 3 on 3 continued for another hour before we stopped to run drills. Nakano would spike the ball down hard, then we would be expected to receive it perfectly back to him. Then we move out of the way so he can spike that received ball to the next person. The drill was fast-paced and disorienting. Each missed ball was a sprint around the court. This man was trying to kill us. After another hour of this, he dismissed us for lunch.
"I can't feel my body," I complained while using the guys as crutches.
"Is that my problem? Get off of me!" Daiki yelled trying to push me off.
"I didn't realize you were so weak, Daiki-Kun. Look at me, a poor, young girl. Suffering. But yet you offer no support? Fine." I saw his eye twitch as he stopped pushing me and let me lean on him. It was too easy.
We were all silent during lunch as we tried to force energy back into our bodies, knowing full well we had training next. I sent quick texts to my friends, mainly full of complaints and ate protein-filled foods until lunch was done.
"Are we not going back to the gym?" I asked following the boys as they walked in the opposite direction.
"Nope. Now it is time for the group workout. This isn't as bad. It's basically yoga until he lets us leave and pulls a few of us to do more practice. Since you are here, it will probably just be you. Good luck." I could not catch a break. The yoga was fine, I felt better afterwards but it was the practice with Coach Nakano that completely drained me of any feeling.
