NORA

"I want them all," I gaze at all the hundreds of prom dresses filling the huge dress store we've just stepped in.

"Same" Olive's eyes brighten up and she squeals. "Come on, let's go try them on!" She takes my hand and starts dragging me toward the closest rack, Lexie and Audrey following behind.

The sales clerk, a bubbly young woman called Heather, helps us find our sizes as we try on dress after dress. It's exhausting business.

"I think I'm going to go with powder" Olive steps out of a blue dress an hour later and reaches for a pretty pale pink one I help her close.

"It's perfect!" I clap my hands. "You look like a princess."

She checks her reflection in every angle, twirling in front of the mirrors in the beautiful dress. It really compliments her skin tone.

"I think this is it," she smiles brightly. "I love it."

"Yay!" I do a little happy dance. She grins at me and looks me over. I'm currently wearing a black mermaid gown that glitters a bit.

"That looks really good on you," she scans me from head to toe.

"Yeah, I guess," I look in the mirror. "It's okay, it's just not the dress, you know?" I've tried on tens of dresses already, unable to decide either on color or style.

"I totally hear you," she looks herself over one more time and signs. "This really is perfect."

I grin. "It really is. Evan is going to faint when he sees you."

A faint blush creeps up her cheeks. "Whatever," she tries to act nonchalant but I know otherwise. "Help this thing off me so I can go and find you yours."

"Yes, ma'am," I salute her and get to work.

As we step out of the huge dressing room, we hear happy squeals from the one just next to ours.

"Girls? Found anything good yet?" I raise my voice so they hear me over the music playing on speakers.

The curtains open and Lexie and Audrey step out both looking absolutely breathtaking. Lexie is wearing a beautiful pale blue baby doll dress that shows off her legs while Audrey has opted for a light pink one-shoulder gown that hugs her slender figure.

"You guys look amazing!" Olive and I yell at the same time.

They both smile and twirl for us.

"Only Nora left" Olive nudges me. "Why am I not surprised that you're the most difficult one?"

"Beats me," I grin at her and drag her toward a section I haven't looked over yet. "I'm thinking maybe red. Or champagne. One or the other."

"You got it."

It takes us another hour but finally I'm standing in front of a mirror in my dream dress. It's perfect. Giddy with excitement, we all pay for our dresses and lay them carefully in the trunk of my car in their garment bags, then go on a hunt for dinner.

It's late by the time I've dropped off the girls and arrived at home, my feet killing me. I can see light coming from under mom's office, so I take it she's still busy working and decide to show her the dress later. I take off the heeled ankle boots and rub my aching soles before carrying the dress upstairs to my room and laying it gently on an armchair. Then I take a long relaxing bath before finally climbing into bed and falling asleep instantly.

I wake to a persistent buzzing somewhere near my head. I roll over and reach for my phone on the nightstand, squinting drowsily at the lighted up screen that announces Sex god is calling. Right, Tyler. The buzzing stops right then and I see I have three missed calls, all from him in the last few minutes.
