"I come from a maze of girls and boys-" I began. "Girls and boys?" Alby interrupts.

I glare at him and he rolls his eyes.

"Anyway, I was a runner. Two months ago, me and my best friend, Amy, were on our way back to the Glade when we ran Into a griever. We eventually lost it, but the doors had long since closed." I breathe, the images running through my head as If it had actually happened.

"We knew we had to try to survive, and we almost did! But... she didn't make it." I suddenly felt a great sadness wash over me as If I really had lost my best friend.

"Amy sacrificed herself for me as I ran away and back to the Glade. Except, this isn't my Glade! There's only boys here! So, instead of risking being found, I found this clearing and then snuck in to the kitchen and gardens every few nights so I could survive. That's how I got here. And now look where I am." I say. A tear nearly escaped my eye but I blink it away.

I look at Alby and he seems shocked. "There's other mazes? And you survived a night in one?" He asked.

I roll my eyes and ask: "Were you even listening? Yes to both those questions you idiot! What else do you want to know?"

He kept asking questions and I answered them. How was I going to keep this straight?

"Look, I don't want to talk about it anymore. Besides, I would love some lunch right now!" I say. Alby nods his head and I get up, stopping as I remember something.

"Oh ya, my conditions." I say, turning back to see Alby's look of dread.

"I promise it's nothing bad. All I want Is the ability to choose my job and to attend all your gatherings, alright? I don't want to be one of your keepers, I just want a say because you teenage boys don't always know klunk!"

Alby looks at me shocked and I sigh. "You guys are really loud at your bonfires whenever you have them." He nods his head and then gestures to the rope tying his hands.
