Trapped (Full Story)

Chapter 17

"Because he doesn't need people to smother him as he's healing! Besides, would you want everyone to know you've attempted suicide?!" I whisper harshly, tears filling my eyes as thoughts of my own suicide attempts filled my mind. 

Minho's about to answer but shuts his mouth. "You're right." He sighs. I nod my head and sit down on a stool next to Newt's bed. 

"Hey, why haven't I ever seen you around before?" Minho asks. I look up at him and reply: "Trust me. No one in the Glade saw me until today. You're not the first." He smiles and I give him a small one. 

He opens his mouth to ask something else and I cut in: "Ask anyone to know the story. But if you want a more detailed one, go to Alby." He nods his head and sits next to me. 

Alby comes in a minute later with three plates of food and me and Alby eat while I also fed Newt as best I could. 

"Why are you still here anyway?" Minho asks. I glance at him before giving an unconscious Newt another spoonful. "What do you mean?" I ask. 

"You could've just gotten your own food and left us with Newt. But you're still here." Minho explains. 

I freeze.

How would I cover this up? 

I then set down the spoon on the bedside table and turn to Minho. "There was this young girl back in my Glade. She broke her leg one day and I had to fix it. But, I let her start walking too soon and she got a terrible limp." Tears began welling In my eyes as if this really had happened and I was reliving it. "A few months later, we had a guy go psycho from the changing and he chased after her. She tried to get away but..." I sigh as I watch the fake memory play through my head. "But she wasn't fast enough. It was my fault she couldn't make it and now Newt's leg is broken and If the same thing happens again because I couldn't do something right, then I would never forgive myself." 

Neither of the boys gave any forms of sympathy, so we sat in silence the rest of the night.
