Chapter 34

Best friend? He only considers me as a friend? 

I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm honored to have Newt consider me as his best friend! But something inside of me just breaks. It just doesn't sound right. 

"Newt, I think you're my best friend here too. You're super funny and smart! And you miraculously keep order around here," I say, making him chuckle. 

"But I don't need someone protecting me. Thanks for the concern, really! But I can handle myself." Newt nods his head and hugs me. 

"Alright." 

I'm utterly shocked, but gladly hug him back. When he pulls me away, he smirks and asks: "So when's your next date with Philip?" My face turns bright red and I playfully hit his shoulder as he laughs his head off. 

"Oh shut up ya slinthead!" I say. 

He's still laughing tho as I set up the first stretch.

The next night, Nick lets Gally hold a fight circle. 

I look over at Minho and realize the real reason: they needed more runners. 

Many people tried to beat Gally, but none succeeded. 

"Man! Can't anyone here fight? This seems so obvious!" I groan as another boy falls out of the circle. 

"Ya, like you could beat Gally," Newt chuckles beside me. "Sorry y/n, but the only one who could probably beat Gally is Minho or Nick!" 

"Ya? And why not me?" I ask defensively. 

"Well no offense y/n, but a buggin girl couldn't beat Gally!" Newt says, gesturing to Gally taking another victory lap. 

I felt a small rage of fire light up inside me. 

"I could do it. Why don't you think I can? Do you think I'm weak?" I sneer to Newt. 

He shrugs his shoulders and that's when I lose it. 

"Alright, who's next?" Gally calls. "C'mon! Anyone? Are y'all just chicken?" Gally taunts. 

I give a quick glare to Newt before pushing my way to the front. 

"Careful what you wish for Gally." I say, stepping into the circle. 

"Woah, woah, woah y/n! I'm sorry, but everyone knows girl's can't fight!" Gally says, getting up In my face. 

I then punch his face and say: "Wanna say that again shank?"
