When school ended, Daria had Summer walk her out to her car, before she pulled the blonde into a hug. Summer was caught off guard, seeing as Daria wasn't much of an affection person in public.

"Thank you for being such a great friend, Summer. You've always been there for me, and I don't know what I would've done without you. You're like the sister I never had. I love you, and I hope you get everything you ever wanted in life." Daria said, as Summer's eyebrows furrowed.

"Darling, what are you talking about? You're talking like you're dying." Summer commented, but Daria just shook her head with a small smile.

"I'm sorry, Summer. I wish I could explain it better to you. I just can't explain it, but I'm choosing my baby. Goodbye, Summer." Daria replied, as she got in her car and started it up.

"No! Darling! No! You can't!" Summer exclaimed, as she watched the girl pull away.

Summer cried as she watched her best friend leave, knowing she'd never see her again. Daria kept herself from crying the whole ride home, knowing she needed to look calm in front of her family. She couldn't have them suspecting anything, otherwise they'd get suspicious of what Daria was up to, and Daria didn't need that. Walking into her home, she could hear the chatter between her mother, her father, her aunt, and her uncle.

"Hey, Darling. How was school?" Dom asked, as he watched his daughter sit down next to Brian.

"Same old, but I talked to Matt today." She said, giving into the casual conversation.

"Matt? The boy who could pull off looking like a young Ted Bundy?" Brian asked, causing Daria to laugh and playfully shove her Uncle.

"Uncle Brian, that's mean. Please tell me you've never said that to anyone in his family." Daria pleaded, as Brian laughed.

"No, I've kept that one strictly between the five of us. Besides, I think it would be weird if I walked into his parents' convenience store and told them their son was Ted Bundy's clone." He replied, and she rolled her eyes with a laugh.

She was going to miss all these jokes and playing around with her family. She wished she didn't have to make such a tough decision, but she didn't have any other choice. This was her worst nightmare honestly, but she couldn't back out now.

"Dinner should be ready in a minute. Brian chose burgers, I hope that's alright with you, Darling." Mia commented, knowing her niece wasn't always fond of burgers.

"It's fine. Your burgers are pretty good." She replied, and Mia grinned.

The five family members walked into the kitchen and sat down at the table, Mia passing everyone a burger. Letty passed around a bowl of fries, as Brian handed out the cans of coke to everyone. Dom said grace once more, before they all began to eat their dinner.

"So, how are you going to spend your summer break this year, Darling?" Letty asked, causing her daughter to shrug.

"Don't know. I might just stick to swimming all summer, since it is rather hot all the time." She answered, as both her mother and aunt nodded in agreement.

She couldn't openly tell them the truth, not only would it crush them, but then she wouldn't be able to do what she had to do. There was no way around it, not if she wanted to be happy. She couldn't be happy and be where she was now. She could try, yes, but everything would go down in flames eventually. She couldn't lose her family over such an accident, but she was going to lose her family over her choice either way.

"Will Summer's parents be renting that beach house again?" Mia asked, as Daria shrugged.

"No idea, most of the time her parents do things on a whim, so nobody really knows what they'll do until they do it." Daria answered, this time being completely honest with her aunt.

Daria's family liked Summer's parents, but they also didn't like how lenient and carefree they were. Summer's parents pretty much allowed her to do anything, which didn't fly well with Daria's family. Daria's family set rules for Summer while she was there though, so Summer knew a good bit of discipline. They've never really punished the girl before, but she was able to pick up good ethics and manners from the family.

"I made cheesecake for dessert, if you guys are ready for it." Mia commented, and everyone agreed.

Mia made the best cheesecake, since it was made with real cream cheese and not the fake box stuff everyone seemed to buy from the store. Daria loved her cheesecake, especially when it was cherry. Today it was cherry, which made Daria happy, but she also felt guilty. She was leaving all of this behind, all because of her decisions. She remembered when Mia would make her a cheese cake on her birthday, even though she already had a regular birthday cake, just because she knew Daria would want it.

After eating, they all split up to do their own thing. Daria ran up to her room and began to pack herself a big duffel bag full of clothes. Once she had most of her clothes in it, she also grabbed a small suitcase to put her shoes and anything else she needed in it. As soon as she was done, she put all of her money in her purse, before going into her bathroom and getting a shower. By the time she was out of the shower, it was already dark outside. Feeling dread pool into the pit of her stomach, Daria made her way back downstairs where her family was sitting and watching TV.

"Goodnight everyone." She said, going around and hugging her family.

"Love you, Darling." They all replied, their voices almost in unison.

"Love you, too." She answered, before turning around and going back upstairs.

She felt tears roll down her face, as she thought about everything that was going to happen. She was saying goodbye and they didn't even realize it. Once she heard them all go to their rooms, she waited exactly two hours before she carried her things downstairs to her car. She left her phone behind, not before writing down the most important numbers in a notebook for her to keep. She sat in the front seat of her car, looking up at the house that had been her home for the first sixteen years of her life. She was leaving it all behind, and there was no turning back.

"Goodbye guys, I love you all. I hope you can forgive me for leaving." She whispered, before she turned on her car and drove away.

Her childhood was officially over. Everything was going to be different. She was leaving everything she ever knew and loved behind for her baby...
