Bastogne had been hitting everyone pretty hard, mentally and physically.
If it wasn't the cold that bothered everyone it was the loss of another Easy company member.
For you it was everything. You missed having letters from your family, you missed the laughing moments with your boys, you missed feeling warm, you just hated being in Bastogne, Christmas was right around the corner and it just didn't feel like Christmas at all. It would be the worse Christmas in history, that's how the whole company felt anyway.
There was only one person who managed to get a smile out of you these days and it seemed to be Lewis Nixon, but the only thing was, he wasn't always around to make you smile, being up in battalion made him work behind easy.

As you sat in your foxhole on your own you looked up at the stars that were shinning down on you, the stars were your company at night time, since your gunner partner got hit you have been on your own, it gets lonely a lot of the time but there isn't much anyone can do about it, some nights one of the boys would come and keep you company but you always tell them your fine, even though they can see you weren't fine.

You had sat in your foxhole for what seemed like hours but it was only just a couple of minutes, you were so zoned into looking at the stars that you didn't hear someone jump down into your hole. It wasn't until you felt a hand on your knee that you came back to earth. You jumped a little and looked to your right, you saw Lewis sat there with a concerned look on his face.
"Bloody hell Lewis! You scared me" you whispered to him.
"Bethany I called your name five times, you didn't answer me once, is everything ok?" Lew asked as he moved closer to you while wrapping an arm around your shoulder.
You just nodded your head at him while looking back up at the stars.
Lewis looked at you with worry, he could tell you were completely out of it and weren't 100% okay. He just didn't want to push you over the edge.
You continued to look up at the stars and thought about anything but the war, or tried to at least.
War seemed to consume your mind, you hated it.
"Beth talk to me, you aren't ok" you looked at Lewis and rolled your eyes.
"Who said I'm not ok? I'm absolutely fine thank you lewis" you replied back to him. He wasn't buying it.
"Beth I know you inside and out, you aren't okay and I know that, why don't you talk to me?" He asked while leaning forward a little so he could look at your face, you were looking down at your boots while playing with your fingers. Lewis looked down at your hands and saw you playing with them, he put a hand over yours and you stopped fidgeting with them, Lew's hands were so nice warm and surprisingly really smooth. The warmth was something you longed for and missed so dearly. You looked into Lew's eyes and tried to laugh but it came out as a sob. Lew's face softened while looked at you. You closed your eyes and sucked in a breath. You didn't want to have a break down right now, not here at least and definitely not in front of Lewis.
You could feel the tears rolling around in your eyes as you kept them closed, you felt Lewis rub your hands with his thumb.
As you opened your eyes the water rolled down your checks. You sighed and tried to move away from Lewis.
He saw and wrapped his arms around your waist and pulled you into his chest, your back resting against him.
"You aren't going anywhere Beth, I'm here for you okay? You know that" he whispered in your ear. You nodded but didn't dear speak. You might just break fully.
You decided after awhile to talk to him.
"I'm just so lost lew, I don't feel anything but cold and darkness, I have no idea how I'm meant to come out of this dark hole I'm sitting in, you with me right now is the first lot of warmth I've had in a while, I just don't know if I can keep doing this shit" by that point you had full on started crying, everything was getting to much for you, anyone in the company could see it.
It broke Lew's heart to see you so broke and lost.
"Well I'll help you Beth, you mean the world to me you know that? And you aren't lost, cause if you were I wouldn't be here would I?" You chuckled a little while tears still rolled down your face.
"There we go, I got a little chuckle out of you" he whispered and kissed the side of your head.
What you would give to feel his warm lips.
You gashed at the thought. Lew looked at you with raised eyebrows.
"What is it?" He asked and you shock your head.
"Oh nothing, it's nothing Lewis" you said and just leaned into his chest more. He didn't push it but wrapped his arms around you more, giving you all his warmth.
You knew Lewis wanted to say more to you but he knew you needed time. Hopefully just not to long.

"How are you men so bloody warm?" You questioned as you looked up at Lew while resting your head on his shoulder so you could see him. He had a smirk on his face.
"I'm not sure really, maybe it's you who makes us warm" you just looked at him.
"What's that supposed to mean?" You asked and sat up a bit and turned around to face him.
He shock his head.
"You just brighten people up Beth, even when you aren't feeling great you just know to make someone feel warm" he said while looking down at his feet.
You smiled and just chuckled. He looked up at you.
You didn't know you had it in you but you cupped his face and smashed your lips to his, you felt his hand go behind your neck and pull your face closer onto his lips, he groaned into the heated kiss. Once you pulled away you giggled, you giggled for the first time in weeks. This is what Lewis Nixon did to you, he made you forget about the war, he made you feel warm, he just knew how to make you feel happy.
Lew grinned at you and you blushed. You felt his hand pull a bit of hair back and place it behind your ear.
"I'm here for you sweetheart, always will be know matter what, you aren't alone and you most definitely aren't lost Alright. You have this whole company looking out for you. And you have this awesome guy" he said while pointing to himself. You laughed and just hugged him.
"Thank you Lew, for literally everything" you whispered and he chuckled as he rubbed his hands up and down your sides. You pulled away and was meet with his lips. You laughed into the kiss and Lewis smirked.
He finally had you, he finally knew you would be alright as long as he did his job, which is making you happy and warm
