Nothing good lasts as long as you wish it could. Molly always felt a little down coming back to Red Top after some time with her family, but this time it was worse because she didn't even get to spend the full weekend home.
Saturday morning, she had gotten a class announcement on her phone that her professor was offering a review session on Monday. This was something she wasn't going to give up, but she knew she had to look over the rest of her notes to get the most out of the review session. The problem, her notes were back in her room at her place. This led to coming back on a late Saturday afternoon instead of a Sunday evening.
Now, Sunday morning, Molly rolled over in her bed, still under the covers. She was freezing and felt a headache coming on. She began coughing. This was not something I need today, she thought. Today was going to consist of nothing but studying. Her review was tomorrow and finals were just around the corner.
After another half-hour passed and her slight headache not getting better, she got out of bed and made herself some tea. She grabbed a pill from the kitchen cabinet and went back to her room. She sat on her bed, looking out the window until the pill started kicking in.
She rubbed her face in frustration as she sat down at her desk. It's been a while since she had an actual break to do something she liked. She's been so wrapped up in studying since high school that she's forgotten what it felt like to not have to constantly be studying for something. This brought her to a thought she had been contemplating from the start of the semester – a break. But now is not the time to think about that, she reminded herself. Her focus now was finishing her second to last semester. All she needed to do was plow through today, and beginning first thing in the morning was a better time to start than ever.
Hours later and her headache coming back, she stood up. She looked at her clock and saw it was midafternoon. Deciding she could use a short break, she walked out of her room and into a suddenly seeming spacious living room.
"I need a break," Molly called out to Liz. She knew her friend was home because there was noise coming from the TV the whole time she was trying to study. "I have a headache and I need to freakin' break or my head is going to explode," she said as she walked into the kitchen.
"Hey Mol," Nick said. He sat on one of the island stools, smirking. Liz was across from him. "Cranky?"
"What are you doing here?" Molly asked, her frustration suddenly subsiding.
"We've been having a bet to see how long you could stay in your room studying before you came out for air. You disappointed me; you've only been in there for six hours," Liz teased.
"You'd know; you probably only got up a couple of hours ago," Molly answered defensively and then coughed.
"You're right, but so am I," she poked at her friend.
Molly rolled her eyes and then redirected her attention to Nick. "It's so nice to see you. I feel like I need to be around some sanity right now."
"Are you hungry?"
"I could eat," she said subtly.
"Good, I brought you some lunch."
"Really?" she tiredly walked over to him, resting her head on his chest, asking for a hug. He responded with his arms around her. "What do I owe this pleasure?" she asked.
"Dan went over to Emily, Sammy was wanted over for a playdate, and I had free time on my hands." That was true; however, even if his siblings had been home, he would have stopped by and brought her lunch. He knew she had to be bummed to be back early and the reason didn't help the matter.
