Chapter 4: The Party, Summer Job & Dean.

The party was still going on downstairs as I sat in my bed and thought about how my life is such a mess. What did I ever do to deserve this?

A knock on the door interrupted my thoughts. I got up slowly "Come in"

The door opened slightly and Jeremy walked in annoyed "I hate parties. I just wanted a small family gathering. I don't even know half of the people here!" He closed the door behind him and walked towards me. He lied down next to me "Are you okay?" He asked staring into my eyes. I blinked twice and nodded my head "I'm fine"

"Well, I'm exhausted and I need some sleep" He turned around on his side and wrapped an arm around my waist as he snuggled closer to me. I giggled and tried pushing him away but he was too strong "You should go down there. Or the monster in mom will unleash" I watched him as he breathed in and out slowly with his eyes closed.

"Jeremy?" I shook him slightly but he didn’t respond. He fell asleep that fast?

I smiled at his peaceful face and squirmed under his arms for a bit till I finally got out. I adjusted his sleeping position and took off his shoes. I covered him with my blanket and kissed his forehead softly.

I love you, brother.

I picked up my book and laid down next to him as I started reading. An hour later, mom realized Jeremy's absence and she came up to my room. When she saw him sleeping, she smiled and kissed his forehead then walked outside closing the door behind her. She didn't even look at me. I shook my head and continued reading.

"Ellie"

I shot my head up with a gasp. I didn't hear anyone come in. Dean stood at the door with a small smile on his face, I couldn't help but smile back. I dropped the book next to me as I slowly crawled out of bed towards the door. Dean kept the door open for me as we both slid outside. He closed the door slowly and looked at me "Your mom told me you were not feeling well and I came to check up on you"

I shook my head "Don't worry, I'm fine. Just a slight headache" I faked the best smile I could and he returned it "I'm glad, I don't really know anyone down there, I talked to your brother though, he's really cool"

I nodded "I know"

"Hangout with me for a bit" he pleaded "A couple of girls called Mary and Jane? They're flirting with me! I finally managed to run away from them when your mom came and asked us how are we doing, that’s when I asked her about you, she told me you were feeling ill so I told them be right back, I need to check on her when they sa-." Dean fell silent immediately "Sorry, I'm rambling"

"What did they say?" I asked, my chest tightening. Mary and Jane were my cousins and we absolutely hated each other's guts.

"Never mind" He replied, his eyes searching the floor.

"Dean" I said sternly and he sighed "Why do you want to check up on that thing" He mimicked and I sighed frowning but shrugged my shoulders "Used to them"

I was actually insulted and hurt.

"But! I told them and I perfectly quote 'She's not a thing, her name is Ellie. And go look at yourselves before you judge her' And I walked away" Dean said crossing his arms proud of himself.

I giggled "Thank you"

"Anything for you" He winked and I laughed again.

"Where's Hailey?" I asked and he gasped "Totally forgot about her! Mom doesn't like it when Hailey's around her as she talks to people, be right back!" He ran downstairs. I watched him go with a smile on my face. He's cute.

The bathroom door opened and Kyle came out rushing a hand through his hair. My eyes met his and he furrowed his eyebrows "Finally decided to come out?"
