It was around the time the princess and Grand duke Talis got engaged. So, it was probably a year after the return of the Haresian envoy from Syris. Hazel got a letter from the queen. She was inviting her to a Tea Party of hers.
"It's the queen."
"What are you thinking about it?" Sylas asked, hugging her from the back and kissing her bare neck.
Hazel giggled, "Agh, Sy! It's tickling!"
"And for the question, I don't know. She's nothing but an acquaintance of mine. If it was Rhys, well, it surely would be a quite different story."
"He had told me once that the queen has suffered from loneliness. Maybe she wants a new friend."
"A friend..."
"A powerful one," he chuckled.
Their relationship grew into a pretty close friendship. Leanna wasn't like Tara to Hazel. Tara was a loud and outspoken friend of hers, who the other woman could never replace. Unlike her, Leanna was calm and understanding and she found it rather easy to talk to her. When they were together, she could hardly notice the atmosphere of the queen and the duchess-to-be, having a cup of tea together, and that was what intrigued her the most about the queen.
... Till something terrible happened.
Sylas and Hazel, who were just in the middle of enjoying their time together, had began thinking about marriage. And in Hares for this to happen a baby was in need to be born. So, that's when a certain problem appeared.
"The injury from the time the lady was in Syris has affected her more than you would think."
The doctor, kindly recommended by Leanna, had stated that she was infertile, due to the time when she was stabbed in Syris. The time when Jax almost died, she was somehow able to survive, but the chancellor barely made it into life. Thanks to her, they both were still there, breathing and all, but...
But she was supposed to gift him the family he had never had. Sylas deserved this!
If possible, Hazel was doomed to die, because her body wouldn't be able to bear any child.
And then it began with the arguments.
Sylas loved her and didn't care about a possible offspring. She was the one that mattered the most to him, while Hazel felt she had failed him completely. Few months after the discovery she found herself utterly exhausted and needed a break.
Things didn't work out for them even if she loved him more than anything in the world.
'Maybe it's not meant to be.'
She avoided him and spent her time mostly at the Tower, where no one was able to enter without her blood. The highest part of it – the place where only the greatest magician could enter.
Hazel wasn't in the mood to talk to others too, so her visits to the Silver Palace to meet Leanna ceased completely. Tara was trying to keep in touch with her, but still things had changed and it was clear nothing was going to be okay after this.
It might have appeared as a small problem, which would be overcome in the process of healing, but Haze wasn't ready, she disagreed to just move on.
And just three months was enough, so that Anna, her personal healer, could find out what was going on with her master. Hazel somehow was able to become pregnant.
Unlike Anna, who was nervous and worried over the newfound fact, Hazel was ecstatic and couldn't be happier. She wanted to tun to Sylas and tell him immediately, but...
