Recording & The Photoshoot

I think this is the first time I have ever been in a recording studio with someone else. It's both exciting and nerve racking at the same time. Before when it's just ne recording the pressure is just on my shoulders so to try and explain what I'm expecting and how I want things to go is easy but to have someone else be involved and have to guide them it can be stressful. Though, I am so lucky to have Quinn involved in this one, I guess being friends for so long has it's perks. Quinn's been in the recording booth for a solid two hours, recording her harmonies and backing vocals. Even though she won't believe me she has a perfect vocal range and I just hope that this track will help give her some much needed confidence. I give her pep talks and reassuring thumbs up to keep her confidence while she records. I remember Taylor and Quinn doing the same for me whenever I would sing karaoke back in the UK. 

Finally, Quinn steps out of the booth and we agree that we are done recording. Quinn heads down stairs to sunbath for an hour while leaving me to edit the vocals and slot them into the required places in the recording. Once I have everything ready to go, I walk over to my balcony and should for Quinn to come back up so we can listen to the single together. We sit on the small sofa in the studio and I press play. The song plays from the speakers, we listen intently both in our own bubbles, feeling the raw emotions. Every word and chord hitting us each with a new unshed emotion/feeling. 

Once the song finishes we both open our eyes and turn to look at each other. Not to toot my own horn but that track was incredible. They way our voices intertwined and paired so easily together just took my breath away. The reality of the track exceeded all of my dreams and expectations. We both smile and remain silent for a little while longer, both in awe of what we have both just created. 

Quinn: I can't believe thats my voice Sky

Skylar: I told you, you have an incredible voice Quinnie.

Quinn: And you've not added any auto-tune to it?

Skylar: Nothing all of that is all natural. I don't use any form of auto tune on my music. 

Quinn: That's amazing Sky. I am actually excited for you to release this one. What you going to call it.

Skylar: I'm not sure yet. I'm going to see what Dom puts together from the photo shoot before I lock in the name. I have a few ideas but nothings final.

We go down stairs and we sit down in my lounge, we turn on Netflix and decide to watch a movie. I let Quinn pick as she'd let me watch anything and everything while I took over her apartment. She picks a horror film, I think it was called Chucky, I'm not 100% sure as I sort off zoned out while she was telling me. As I mentioned before horror films are not my thing but Quinn loves them so I put up with them for her. The things you do not only for you best friend but for the ones you love.

*Time Jump. Quinn has left and Dom's just arrived for the photoshoot. I'm a little annoyed as I was hoping Quinn would stay and I could try and work my magic and get them together to agree to going on a date. I know that they both want to but neither of them have made the first move, unless you include a few kisses and one make out session.*

Dom has arrived and we are sat at my dinning room table talking about all the possible locations and ideas he has for my cover of my single. I talk to him about how the song came about and what I had envisioned for it and somehow Dom was able to envision the perfect place, somewhere that he could drive us too today to do the shoot. We jumped into his car and he drives us to a woodland near a hill side, no wonder it took us over an hour to get here - You could tell we weren't in main town LA anymore. We walked around for a while before Dom found the perfect spot. He setup the equipment and we took some shots. Being the skilled photographer he was we didn't need long to get everything we needed. The photos for my shoot were finished but Dom needed to get some pictures for another project so I left him to do his thing. I decided to use this time to call Bryan. 

Bryan: Hi Baby.

Skylar: Hi Bubs. Thought I'd check in. I've just finished my shoot with Dom.

Bryan: Did it go well?

Skylar: Yea, we literally took half an hour to get all the pictures we needed for my albums cover and yet we drove over an hour for this location. It's beautiful, we should come her together for a picnic you'd love it. 

Bryan: Dom does know all the secret spots. It will be a date. Are you gonna be home soon? Chris is driving me nuts.

Skylar: Not sure, I'm waiting on Dom to finish taking some photos for another project. Be nice to Chris baby, I think he's struggling not having you around as much.

Bryan: Has he said something to you? 

Skylar: No, I just get the feeling is all. Maybe you too could go out to a movie or grab some food?

Bryan: Food does sound good. I'll go ask him. See you later?

Skylar: Later.
