Nik stormed into the jazz club, Elijah and Katherine in tow as he wrapped his arms around his wife and child in relief. "Are you alright? Are you hurt?'

"We're fine, Nik," she promised him as she handed over his daughter.

"Why didn't you call?" Elijah asked as he surveyed the room.

"Of course, I tried to call you all. But since Dahlia was able to take down Nik, Kol, and Mikael, not to mention all of us, I'm pretty sure a cell phone tower posed no challenge to her," Isa sassed.

"And where were the wolves?" Katherine asked.

"Getting their asses handed to them," Isa answered.

"That's it. You're coming back to the compound," Nik ordered.

"Is that even safe? After Josephine this morning?" Isa asked.

"We'll get Davina to help you seal the compound, much harder to break unless you've been invited in," Nik suggested but before they could even move, a new problem walked through the doors.

Julian had stormed in, his pack on his heels as he hefted Aiden's dead body on his shoulders. "Klaus killed him," Julian accused as he was flanked by Christian and Josh.

Isa looked to Nik and the look in his eyes told her instantly that he didn't do it.

"Impossible. He was with me all day and your wolf was killed, what? An hour ago, I'm guessing by the look of him?" Katherine defended.

"The last word uttered from his mouth was 'Klaus'. He was trying to tell us who killed him," Julian persisted.

"Maybe he was trying to warn him, I mean, why on earth would my husband kill Aiden?" Isa defended.

"Ask him," Julian seethed.

Nik only gaped for a second, handing Hope back to Isa. What was the point of fighting when nothing he did was never going to be good enough once someone had made up their minds about him? He wouldn't confirm it but he wouldn't deny it either. "What does it matter if it did or if I didn't? You lot clearly trust the word of a dead man more than mine. And anyway, now you all know what will happen should you try and cross me or endanger my daughter."

The wolves, Nik's so-called family, lunged at him but they didn't touch him as Elijah and Katherine got between them. It was a rather stubborn conversation that transpired. Julian insisted that Klaus had done it whilst Isa refused to let her husband take the blame for something he clearly didn't do. Not to mention that anyone who really knew Nik would be able to see that pain in his eyes, that utter defeat, and the look that just said why should I try to prove them wrong? It didn't even matter that Katherine was on their side, swearing up and down that Nik had been with her for the last few hours and couldn't have possibly killed Aiden.

Christan had then made some remark about the brothers sharing her as they did with the original doppelganger and then Elijah had to be held back from tearing out his tongue because yes, whilst the situation was dire, no one would ever make such a vulgar comment about his wife.

Though, it didn't help that Nik and Katherine had then left to go and fortify the compound before they came back to pick up Hope and Isa, Josephine's spell still strong enough to last that long. However, Elijah had other plans.

Julian had pulled Elijah out of Isa's earshot, under the guise of going to put Aiden to rest, only to hand over a dagger. A very familiar, slim, ornate blade of shining gold. An Original dagger that would work on Nik. It had been a contingency plan of theirs that they'd cooked up with Josephine. They didn't know how the witch got her hands on the dagger but she and her disciples worked tirelessly to change the metallic composition of the blade without changing it's magical properties. Of course, the blade hadn't been tested if it worked, but should it arise again where Hope needed to run, they were ready for it. They had sworn to protect the latest heir in their bloodline and they would do whatever was required to keep her safe, including putting down her parents.
