Alex and I walked along the path. Other mutant kids were playing different games around us, like basketball or soccer. I was the first to break the silence.

"So have you heard from him?" I asked looking ahead. Alex sighed.

"Ghost, you know that no one has seen or heard from him in ten years." He said. I looked down.

"I know," I said. "I just thought....maybe. But you're right. If he didn't contact then, why would he contact now."

"Your dad's been through a lot." Alex said. "He just needs time to heal." I stopped walking and looked at him, the anger building inside.

"Time?" I scoffed. "Ten years should be enough. He doesn't even know I'm alive. He doesn't know I exist." When I said that I saw Alex back away a bit. I knew it was my eyes. I closed my eyes and looked down.

"I'm sorry." I said quietly. "I'm just not feeling so good today. I didn't sleep much last night."

"Is it the dreams again?" He asked.

"They're getting worse." I said. Alex sighed and put his hand on my shoulder.

"Just get some sleep," He said. "And try not to focus on things out of our control. That should help the dreams go away." I nodded. He hugged me tightly. When we pulled away he smiled at me. I turned and started heading back to the school.

--------------------------

I closed my door and pressed my back to it. I closed my eyes shut. I took deep shuddering breaths. I couldn't do this anymore. To pretend I'm fine when I'm breaking inside. None of them knew how it felt. My name was Ghost for a reason. I took another deep breath and went to the mirror. I looked at my reflection. Hazel eyes, dark silver hair, not your normal 13 year old girl. As I looked at myself, the memories came back in waves.

I held my fist tightly in my hand. The tears rolled down my cheeks.

"How could you do this to me?" I shouted at my mom, if I could even call her that anymore.

"You're a monster, just like your father." She snapped back at me.

"Mom.." Peter started. But she ignored him.

"Why I even let that man convince me to bring you in, I'll never know." She snapped. "Just because you were the daughter of my old boyfriend and the half-sister of my son, does not mean that I had to take you in. But Peter insisted. You're a monster, and a monster will not be living under my roof." Her words hit me hard. I closed my fist tighter and tighter. I felt the room start to shake. She thought I was a monster, I would show her a monster. The room started to shake more. My mom looked around and started to get angry.

"Serene, stop!" She shouted. But I didn't listen. I looked over at the glass windows. They shattered instantly. I looked over to the shelf. A book flew off the shelf and hit her in the head. She instantly fell to the ground. Peter turned to me.

"What the hell did you do?" He asked, shocked.

"What I had to do." I said. I pushed past him and went to my room. I got out a backpack and started shoving things in it. I felt a rush of air at my side.

"What are you doing?" He asked.

"Getting out of here." I said through clenched teeth.

"Are you crazy?" He asked.

"Yeah probably." I said. I finished packing. I put on a black jacket and put the backpack over my shoulders. Peter just watched me.

"You can't be serious." He said.

"Well, I am." I said. I headed for the door, but Peter grabbed my hand. I turned and looked at him.

"Serene, please don't go." He said. I broke free of his grasp and sighed.

"I have to." I said. "You've seen what I can do. No one's safe as long as I'm around. Not even you." Saying the last words broke my heart, but I knew it was true. Peter looked down. I sighed and opened the door out of my room and went downstairs. Peter followed me. I felt a rush of air and Peter stood in front of me, blocking the door out of the house.

"Peter-" I started.

"Here." He said reaching into his pocket. He pulled out a necklace with a silver chain. It had a silver pendant on it. Carved on the pendent was the Chinese symbol for luck.

"Seriously, a luck charm." I smirked. Peter cracked a smile.

"In high school, a buddy of mine gave it to me as a joke, saying that it was lucky and that I needed it." He said with a laugh in his voice.

"Didn't you get kicked out of high school?" I asked suspiciously.

"Well yeah, but my fate was already sealed." He said. He pulled my hair away from my neck and put it on. He smiled at me. I smiled back.

"Bye." I said. Peter rushed forward and hugged me tightly.

"I love you Serene." He said.

"I love you too Peter." I said. I concentrated hard, shifting my matter, and walked through him like I was a ghost.

I saw a tear roll down my cheek. I reached into my shirt and pulled out the luck charm necklace. I rolled it through my fingers. I took another shuddering breath. I looked back up at myself through the mirror. I did look a bit like Peter. Silver hair. But I knew that the silver hair came from my mutation. When I first truly used my powers. When I truly became Ghost.
