Serene POV

The door opened revealing a large circular room with dark blue tiles along the walls. It was like inside a giant globe. I followed Charles down the ramp to where the main control panel was. Hank, Raven, and Moira.

"Moira, I'm going to have to ask you to keep this a secret." Charles said.

"I don't even know what 'this' is." Moria said as she looked around the room and the doors closed behind her.

"It's Cerebro." I said. "The new model."

"I based the color on..." Hank said looking at Raven, but then quickly looked away. "..It doesn't matter." Charles reached down and put the clear helmet on his head. It was clear with a metal strip down the middle, and wires running down into the control panel. He started it up. The clear part glowed blue from the small wires inside the helmet. Cerebro made a ding noise. Suddenly it felt like we were rushing forward. White figures of people passed us by. It was like in the Star Wars movies when they jump to hyperspace. But only this was a lot cooler. And it was real and not just some movie. There were different voices coming from the figures. I heard Moria gasp from behind me.

"What are those?" She asked.

"Those are all the humans of the world." Charles said. Suddenly the white figures disappeared, and red figures popped up. There were fewer, but still many. Most of the voices were cries, full of sadness and anger.

"And these are all the mutants." I said, my voice wavering a bit.

"I'm connected to all their minds." Charles said.

"The CIA would kill for this." Moria said with a light laugh.

"I know they would." Charles said. "Where are you, Erik?"

Erik POV

"Charles?" I said quietly to myself. I knew that he was inside my head. I could feel it.

"Hello, old friend." Charles' voice said in my mind. "I'm sorry. I am so sorry! I feel your pain. And your loss."

"You think because you can see into my head...you know how it feels?" I said. "You're looking in the wrong place, Charles."

"What happened to them was terribly wrong." He said. "But come back to us. I can help you."

"Help me?" I scoffed.

"Think of your wife, think of your daughter, what would they have wanted?" He asked.

"They would have wanted to live." I said bitterly. I thought back to Serene. I remembered that when she was born, the storm was raging outside. Things were flying around the room, it was insane. I had sent her to Charles so that he could take care of her. I never saw her again. "I tried your way, Charles. I tried to be like them. Live like them. But it always ends the same way. They took everything away from me. Now.....we'll take everything from them."

Serene POV

"Hank..." Charles said. "He's not alone." Suddenly, the graphs on the machine started speeding up. .

"Hey, Charles, wait." Hank said.

"Oh my god." Charles whispered. Suddenly the screen around us turned from the red to purple. It was like liquid being spilled, absorbing everything in its path.

"Charles, got out!" Hank said, shaking Charles' shoulder.

"I've never felt power like this before." Charles said.

"Charles...Charles, get out of there." Hank said again. Then he turned to me. "Get him out of there." I nodded. I closed my eyes and placed one of my hands on his neck. The moment I did a shearing pain shot through my whole body. I screamed. I could see what Charles was seeing. Missiles. People from all different countries sending up missiles.

"Always the same." A deep voice said in my head. "And not, all this. No more stones. No more spears. No more slings. No more swords. No more weapons! No more systems! No more! No more superpowers." Pain shot through my body one last time, then black.
