Serene POV
We teleported back into the ship with all the astronauts.
"Strap in, we're headed home." Raven commanded.
"Wait," One of the astronauts said. "Our commander, he's not here. He was in the airlock working on the thruster." For a moment, we were all silent, looking back and forth between each other and the shuttle.
"The heat signature's rising fast." Hank said.
"I can't hold it any longer." Storm hissed. Then I remembered. She was covering the shuttle in ice to keep the oxygen inside.
"We gotta get out of here." Raven said again. "I said strap in."
"No, Raven. No." Charles' voice said. "We're not leaving anyone behind."
"I am not putting this team in more danger," She countered back.
"What about their team?" Charles questioned. "Jean can hold the shuttle together and Ghost can ensure the safety of everyone. She can hold their life force in place."
"Yeah, that could work," I stated.
"I can hold the shop together," Jean said. "But not from here, I need to get inside."
"The heat's spiking," Hank informed us. "We've got less than a minute till those flares hit."
"They said they could do it," Scott said.
"Thirty seconds," Raven said after a moment. Peter quickly duck-taped an astronaut helmet to Kurt's head. "Count it down, go." Kurt grabbed Jean and they teleported. I rushed to the front of the ship, and my eyes turned blood red again. I felt my way through the shuttle. I could feel Jean, Kurt, and the commander. He was still alive.
"The commander's alive," I informed. I took hold of Kurt and the commander's life force (basically I hold it in this world so that they don't die). I tried to grab onto Jean's but I couldn't. I bit the side of my cheek to try to focus.
"We've got twenty seconds," Hank said. I tried harder and harder to grab onto Jean, but I couldn't.
"Ten," Hank counted. "Nine, eight...." I focused. I needed to get to her. The solar flare was getting closer to the shuttle. It was the solar flare. It was blocking me from getting to Jean. I began to panic. "Four, three, two, one." Suddenly, Kurt and the commander teleported back as the solar flare hit the shuttle.
"Where's Jean?" Scott asked. "Kurt, where is she? Where is she?"
"I'm sorry!" Kurt exclaimed. I turned back to look at the shuttle.
"No," I hissed under my breath. "I can still get her." Peter came up behind me and put his hand on my shoulder.
"Serene, come on," He said.
"Brace for impact." Hank shouted and the alarms blared. The solar flare continued to come straight toward us, until it turned. It started moving toward the shuttle. Jean. She was alive.
"I can still save her!" I shouted. I focused more. I could feel the energy of the solar flare going into her. I tried to reach her, but in my head I could hear her screaming. I was hurting her. The more I tried to latch onto her, the more I was losing her. Then, the shuttle exploded. I fell backward from the force coming back into me that I had reached out. I felt numb. Jean...I couldn't feel her.
That's when we saw her. Her body, at least. It was still floating there, still absorbing the solar flare. Then it stopped. We were all silent. Kurt teleported, grabbed Jean's body, then teleported back. Scott jumped out of his seat and rushed towards her. Then I felt it. A slight heart beat. I raced over as well and placed my hand over her chest.
"Come on," I muttered. "Come back, Jean." As soon as I said this, her eyelids fluttered open.
"Is every..." Jean started weakly. "Is everybody okay?"
"Yeah, we're okay." Scott said, his voice wavering. I looked down at Jean. I was so happy she was alright, but a new feeling surfaced. A violent one. The solar flare, that Jean had absorbed, was bad. It was dangerous. It had been in existence for too long. It was too powerful. Only death could have that much power. I pushed those thoughts and feelings aside. They weren't even my thoughts or feelings. They were just..there. Like the voice I had heard earlier.
Scott hugged Jean tightly.
"So let's go home," She whispered.

So, good news. The DVD finally arrived a few days ago, so updates will come regularly. This chapter does have some foreshadowing, so prepare for some of these things to come back up latter in the book. Also, I don't normally ask this, but it would be really nice if you guys would follow me. That way whenever I post a chapter or story you'll be updated. I'm currently wrestling on what fanfiction I'm going to do next. Hobbit, Avengers, or Walking Dead. Thank you so much for reading, I will be posting every Saturday!
