Serene POV
The party was in the woods behind the house. All the kids were out there, music was playing, drinks were served, and some of the kids were using their abilities to make everything look almost magical. I, however, was away from the crowd. I was leaning against the tree in a good spot where I could see everyone, making sure everything was fine. But my mind was still spiraling from my thoughts and fears. Storm and Kurt were over by the drinks and Scott and Jean were closer to the campfire.
Scott walked over to where the punch was and got another glass for Jean, with Storm supplying the ice cubes. It looked almost as if they were talking for a minute before Scott headed back over to Jean.
Jean pulled Scott over to where everyone was dancing and they too started dancing. I had to put my hand over my mouth to help stifle my laughter. They weren't waltzing, just the kind of dancing you do at parties with friends. I decided that this was my time to go. I started heading back to the house.
Hank and Raven were in the basement so I decided to join them.
"Hey, Serene." Raven said. "Is everything okay?"
"Yeah," I answered sitting down in one of the chairs. "I'm just a bit tired, that's all."
"That's okay," Raven said with a small smile. "You can stay down here with us." Raven understood me. She knew I didn't particularly like parties. It was all because of the one party I ever went to before Alex got me. It was a Christmas party for the people Peter's mom worked with at our house. Let's just say that the night didn't exactly go as planned. Ever since we had started throwing parties for X-men missions, I had gotten a bit better. I hadn't gone to them at first, but I slowly stayed at parties longer. My record for staying at a party was probably about an hour. Tonight, I stayed at the party for a little under an hour. It wasn't that I didn't like the people there, I just didn't like parties that much.
Suddenly, one of Hank's machines started beeping. I took a closer look. It was a thermal scanner and showed two main people. Scott and Jean. And Jean's heat level was rising.
"It's Jean," Raven said quickly. She looked at me and I nodded. We quickly started heading back upstairs to get back to the woods where the party was. When I looked back Hank was also behind us.
We were almost at the door when we felt a huge power surge wash over us, blowing the door open and knocking me to the ground. As soon as it hit me I felt an excruciating pain all across my body. Then, black again.

Hey guys, sorry this chapter is so short. I just though that this was the perfect place to cut off also because my chromebook is dying and I want to get a chapter published. But hang in there! More is coming! And yes there is a reason why Serene gets the black outs other then me wanting to end the chapter. Thank you guys so much for reading and I will be updating every Saturday!
