~ALEX POV~
The house was trembling a bit, but not much. Most of the kids were out of bed and looking down the hall. I followed behind the Professor down the hall.
"Back to bed, please my darling. Back to bed." Charles said to the children who were outside their rooms. Suddenly, the house began to shake more violently, and I heard screaming down the hall. It sounded like Serene.
"She's doing it again." I heard a little girl say.
"Back to bed, please, everyone." Charles said with more urgency in his voice. He turned around and looked at me. "Go to Serene, calm her down. It'll be the voices." I nodded, knowing what he meant. While Charles headed to Jean's room, I rushed to Serene's. As I got closer the house shook more and it felt hard to stand. Serene's cries go louder. But I finally got to her room and swung the door open. What I saw stunned me. Serene was sitting up, screaming. Her hands were covering her ears. Her eyes were wide open, but they had the blood red glow. Things were flying around the room. I shut the door and rushed over to her. I wrapped my arms around her.
"It's ok, Serene, it's ok." I said trying to calm her down.
"Quiet!" She screamed. I knew it was the voices. I pushed her head against my chest and held her tightly.
"You're ok, you're ok." I repeated over and over again. Eventually everything died down. Her screaming turned into muffled sobs and things had stopped flying around the room. I rocked her back and forth.
"I saw the end of the world," She said quietly. "I heard people's screams and cries..."
"Shh," I said. "It was just a dream."
"But it wasn't." She said. "I felt the death, everything." I sighed. It was impossible to argue with Serene. I continued to hold her until her breathing was normal. I let go of her and she slowly laid back down in her bed.
"I did it again." She said. I nodded slowly. She sighed. "It happened last night also. It's never happened twice in a row before."
"Well maybe tonight doesn't count." I said. "Jean was also reacting to something tonight."
"Yeah, but I was the one that caused the house to shake." Ghost said.
"Well, I bet it wouldn't happen tomorrow." I said, trying to make her feel better.
"Yes it will." Ghost said, closing her eyes tightly. "Even if nothing physical happens, I hear them every night. Charles can hear voices of the living, but I can hear voices of the dead."
~GHOST POV~
I was sitting on a branch, in a tree. My usual spot. Jean was sitting below me on the ground, studying. I wasn't studying. I didn't even have anything to study for. From the events of last night, Charles said that I should give my mind a break, to let it calm down. So that's what I was doing. Well, partly. I was reading Stephen King's book Pet Sematary. It had just come out and Alex had gotten it for me. He knew that I loved Stephen King. Suddenly I heard someone approaching us. I looked up from my book to see Scott walking towards us. He had some sort of glasses on.
"Hey," He said.
"You can see." Jean said.
"Yeah." Scott said. "It's not as bad as I thought here."
"Freaks." I heard someone say. I looked around to see students walking past us talking to each other.
"Someone should warn the new kid." The other said.
"They're still scared of me." Scott said. "Hey, I have special glasses now."
"They're not scared of you." I said interrupting him.
"They're scared of her." Jean said, referring to me. "And a bit me too, but mainly Ghost." I looked down. I was honestly having a good day. Now I needed to hear this conversation again. I sighed and looked up at Scott.
"You're not the only one who can't fully control your powers." I said.
"Wait, so..." Scott said. "Last night, when the house shook and the screams...that was you guys."
"Sorry to break it to you but you're not the biggest freak in the school." Jean said.
"Well, that's the first." Scott said with a small laugh.
--------------------------
"This is my first time in America. I am very excited to see your culture." Kurt said as Jubilee let him over to us.
"Well, you're not gonna see it here." Scott said. "The only thing American about this place is that it used to be British."
"This is Scott." Jubilee said, slightly annoyed. "He's new here, too."
"And I'm already up for a prison break." Scott said. He stood up and walked towards Kurt. "Why don't you say we take this blue guy on a little field trip? I'm sure there's a mall around here, somewhere."
"What's a mall?" Kurt asked. I had to cover my mouth with my hands to stop myself from laughing.
"What's a mall?" Scott snickered. "All right, now this is a matter of national pride. Civic Duty."
"Scott," Jean said.
"What?" Scott said. "You've been cooped up here for a long time and the Professor's not even home." Scott turned to me. "You too."
"No, no, no." I said, suddenly panicking. "No, there is no way I'm going out in public. Last time....last time I almost killed someone."
"C'mon Ghost I'm not that stupid." Scott said. "You almost didn't..." I glared at him. His face fell, suddenly he realized I was joking. "Ok."
"Kurt, you should go to the mall." I said.
"I--I'd like to go to the mall," Kurt said. "Try it."
"All right." Scott said. "Where does he keep his car?"
