After the Rainfall: Episode 16

"Somebody Else"

Hours go by after Momo and Shoto leave U.A. High School. As the sun begins setting, raindrops start to fall from the bright saffron sky above, lightly drizzling as Momo dreamily observes out of the library window.

Shoto watches Momo stare into the rainy sunset from across the table. He expresses a childlike smile, blushing bashfully, at the sight of his beautiful girlfriend innocently admiring the majestic view from the window sill.

Momo: Isn't it beautiful, Shoto?

Shoto: What is?

Momo: The sounds of the library cafè along with the continous tapping of rain? I wish we could stay here forever...

Shoto: But Momo, I don't think I have enough money on me right now to stay here for a long time.

Momo: Hahahaha — *Sigh* I swear you're doing this on purpose sometimes.

Shoto: Umm... Yeah, sure. Anyway, what did you want to discuss here? Surely there's a reason you wanted to talk to me without my father.

Momo: W-Well... I th-think that — *Mumble* We should take our relationship slowly for now...

Shoto: What was that?

Momo had mumbled the last part to herself, causing Shoto not to hear anything. Knowing how Shoto interprets words in his own way, Momo tries her best to convey what she wants to say carefully.

Momo: Sh-Shoto, I just think that we could... slow things down a bit? You told me... that you want us to marry someday, and I don't think I'm just quite ready for something like that.

Shoto: Hm? Do you not want that?

Momo: I-I'm not saying I don't want to! I'm just saying that we have to see how things'll work out in the future! M-Marriage is a big commitment, and I don't want you to get your hopes up high just yet.

Shoto: Oh, I understand.

Momo: No, Shoto, look at it like th-! ...Wait, you understand?

Shoto: Yes. You don't want to wed just yet, and I get that.

Momo: O-Oh, really? Y-You aren't angry at me?

Shoto: Why would I be angry at you? It's not like you gave me "no" for an answer. Am I wrong?

Momo: N-No...

Momo blushes and starts playing with her hair. Shoto leans over, and affectionately holds Momo by her hand.

Shoto: I'll wait for you; however long it takes. Whether it be years, decades, or even a lifetime. I'll always be there, holding onto my intention to propose to you.

Momo: *Blush* Jeez... Why do you have to be so cheesy all the time? You're making me feel so riled up inside...

Shoto: That's the feeling of your heart longing for me too, is it not?

Momo looks away both in embarrassment, and exhilaration. As clichè as it sounded, it was true; her heart was racing hearing Shoto make such bold exclamations about her.

Shoto: Unless there's somebody else I have to look out for?

Momo: "Somebody else"?

Shoto: Is there someone, or am I the only one who's lining up for your heart?

Momo: ...No, there's nobody else. I love you, Shoto.

The two share a smile. Shoto pulls Momo's arm towards him from across the table, and Momo leans forward. The two exchange a kiss, holding each other's arm as they continue lovingly sharing their affection for one another.
