"Excellently said," Pyxis pats my shoulders. "You have the heart of a lion. All of you do."
We all smile at his words and watch him walk to the edge of the wall, looking down at the garrison below us. He raises his hand and begins yelling.
"Staff officers! We have a plan to try out!"
"W-wait we- -? We can't actually be moving forward with this as our halfassed strategy. It was just something I tossed out there." Armin panics.
"I was thinking the same thing," Eren stands up from where he was resting on the ground. "Except, he seems like a guy who knows what he's doing. Has it all under control, like we can't see the forest from the trees, but he's got a birds eye view."
"You think so?" Armin eager for reassurance.
I look at him and nod. I'm with Eren on this one. Pyxis has my full trust. Without him, all of us would've had our body parts spread across the courtyard by a cannon.
"I do. Either way, though, we've got a whole other problem to address before I can get your plan off the ground. And my gut tells me that the commanders keenly aware of it," Eren stares out into the distance.
"Which would be?" Armin still not aware of the situation at hand.
"Titans aren't our only foe," I speak up, answering for Eren. Both Mikasa and Armin take in a sharp breath.
"Look sharp, soldiers," Pyxis announces and we turn to face him. "The fate of mankind's rets on your shoulders..."
My heart sinks into my stomach and the thought of us about to actually go through with this plan scares me.
Eren and I stay up on the wall with Pyxis, while Mikasa and Armin go consult with other soldiers on the plan.
"It's thought by many that before the Titans, mankind consisted of a lot of different races, different creeds; all scratching and biting at each other for blood. It's not difficult to believe that second part. So a wise man is repeated to have said, though I'm understanding and paraphrasing here, that humanity required an enemy greater than itself just to survive." I take in what he says. "What do you suppose he could have meant?"
"This is the first time I've ever heard of it, sir. I guess... he thought we'd all join forces? Some wise man," eren scoffs.
Pyxis let's out a loud chuckle;
"I like the way your mind works. You're almost as twisted and cynical as me." I smile at Pyxis as he speaks to Eren.
"Well," I roll my eyes. "It's obvious to me the guy didn't have a clue what he was talking about. Common, here we are with an enemy 'greater than ourselves', bearing down... and look at us."
"Exactly beautiful young lady. If our species didn't pull it together soon, Titans will be merely the instruments of our demise, not the cause."
I bite my lip at his words, worried for the future yet again. Eren and I look over to where we have arrived to. There are Garrison soldiers grouped over by the cannons, a familiar blonde man stands out.
"Eren? Sophie?" Hannes smiles. "Well I'll be dammed."
Eren points down to tell him to work, while I give a small wave. Pyxis doesn't stop walking, therefore we can't stand and catch up.
