I bit my lip, staring at the psycho hybrid standing near the bar. He poured himself a drink, pretending he didn't notice me staring.

"If there's something you need to say, say it, love."

I went to talk, suddenly pausing when I heard Hayley coming down the stairs.

"We need to talk." She said.

"Do we indeed? Have you come to express your gratitude at the courtesy I've shown your husband, or perhaps you want to thank me for my efforts to protect you and your pack."

"All this tension with you, Jack, and the wolves, we need to put it behind us. Give Jack the space he needs to run the pack as he sees fit. No more orders, no more favors. He's alpha period." She demanded only for Klaus to laugh in her face.

"I'm sorry. Did you really think I would ever agree to let Jackson control the wolves?"

"You will show him respect, Klaus. He is on our side, and he's fighting for your daughter."

"You know, I've spent all day with people who claim to be fighting for my daughter. Some I trust, some I do not, but one thing is for sure, that there is only two people that I trust when it comes to my child's safety. That would be me and her mother!" He yelled.

Hayley glared at him as he stormed off. She called to him, causing him to stop. He smirked, coming back.

"You know, you all seem to think this is a democracy. I assure you it is not! If Dahlia is coming, then she is a threat to my child, which means I decide how to protect her, no one else! And if Jackson or anyone strays from the course that I set, then they will answer to me. Now your husband would do well to remember that. In fact, I think I'll leave it to you to remind him. That way, when he does inevitably incur my wrath again, you'll only have yourself to blame."

He left once again, this time for good. She looked to him then to me, glaring as I shrugged.

Times like these reminded me why I sometimes despised this family. To get away, I went across the river to Elijah's apartment.

Since he wasn't home, I decided to sort through Ella's things. Sitting on the floor, I noticed just how peaceful it was across the river, not so chaotic as the city.

I smiled at Gia when she entered, thanking her for staying here and taking care of Ella.

"It's no problem, really." She assured, glancing at Elijah before leaving out the door.

Elijah stared behind him, entering with a smirk. He shut the door, hanging up his coat then turning to me.

"Ooh, does Eli have a crush?" I teased.

"Darling, stop with the name. It's been centuries."

"Stop avoiding my questions, Eli."

He finally cracked, smiling.

"Gia is a wonderful woman.. she has so kindly been taking care of my niece, which I am grateful for."

"So this is where you live. It's nicer on the inside." Klaus said, coming in.

"Can I help you, Niklaus, or did you cross the river purely to critique my decor?" Elijah questioned, obviously annoyed.

"I thought you might like to know I was moved by what you said about my decision not to trust our long lost sister, so I waited until she revived, and when she did, we had quite a chat."

"And your position remains unchanged?"

Klaus shrugged.

"I looked in her eyes, and I saw only anger and fear, the will to do whatever it takes to survive no matter who she hurts. I can use her to my own ends, but I could never allow such a damaged creature to have a say in my plans.."

Elijah interrupted him.

"You may not trust her, but trust me, brother. We may have had our differences of late, but we shall exercise the same caution we have always demonstrated towards our allies."

"Fine. I'll let you pursue it, but should Freya betray us..."

"If Freya should even attempt to betray us, I shall bury her beneath a thousand wretched torments."

I shook my head, placing the folded clothes inside the bin.

"I don't doubt it, but what if you're too late? What if Freya is duplicitous? What if Ella should be harmed through her actions? You won't have to worry that I will never forgive you because you will never forgive yourself."

Elijah sighed in frustration, snapping at Klaus.

"Nothing will happen to that child! But we have to consider every weapon at our disposal, brother. Dahlia is coming. The only question is when."

I frowned, hearing the music box in Ella's room playing, I thought I'd turned off. I glanced to the bickering brothers, going to her room.

My skin instantly felt the chill in the room from the window being open. I peeked in the crib, seeing a sleeping Ella before glancing to the window.

Dahlia mischievously smiled, watching the mother look at her daughter with such adoration. The magic tingled in her fingertips as a smirk crept onto her face. It was time..
