"Do they, like, pay you?" I asked the woman as she filled the glass with the blood from her wrist.
"Handsomely, and with a generous Christmas bonus. Isn't that right?" Klaus responded.
She nodded, handing him the glass then walking off.
"So, you just compel her to nod and agree with whatever you say?"
"I compel her to feed me and to hang the occasional Christmas ornament. She can say whatever the hell she wants. You seem better."
"You mean after you psycho ex kidnapped me? Yeah, thanks."
He laughed.
"I'm serious, though. Thank you for giving me space to not talk. I just needed time to figure some stuff out."
"Not planning on leaving again, are you?" He lightly asked.
"No. Not unless you give me a reason to, and that brings me to my question. Why didn't you go with Elijah to help Rebekah? I hope it's not to stay and baby-sit me because I'm fine. Ella and I will be fine."
He smirked.
"It's not a good idea for he and I to spend hours together in confined spaces, given that the prophecy foretells one family member felling another."
"Elijah wouldn't hurt you. If anything, you'd think it would be one of your other siblings."
"I don't know what to think... And that damn fortune teller's predictions continue to unfold despite all our efforts."
He pondered a thought before running off. I sighed at the fresh blood that stained the carpet then looked at my vibrating phone.
"Hey! I got your text. What happened?" I questioned, hearing the door then seeing Hayley first.
I bit my wrist, quickly feeding my blood to a weak Freya.
"She got jumped. 3 vampires all dressed like yuppies." Hayley responded.
"They took it. The serratura. I was meeting with a witch from the bloodline who built the lock. I was hoping she could help me destroy it, but it's not possible. She said the only way to get rid of it is to use it. We have to get it back and lock something else away, anything but my family." Freya spoke.
"Great. Why don't we pay Tristan a visit and ask him really, really nicely?" Hayley sarcastically suggested.
"I'm afraid we have a far more urgent problem." Elijah announced, coming in with Rebekah.
"Well, to be fair, I am the prettiest urgent problem you have ever seen." She smiled, sitting next to Freya.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
She held out her arm for Freya to examine. Through her pained expressions, we could see the concern on her face.
"Aya's stake was cursed. It infected you. As this mark grows, you will go mad. Left unchecked, you will become a relentless, unstoppable ripper."
"Aya always was thorough." Elijah lowly said.
"Strix always employ a safeguard. In the event that we were successful at retrieving your body, you were cursed. You see, if one is on a rampage, one is not difficult to hunt. Can you fix this?" He asked.
"The spell is carved here. I can reverse it. I just.. need some time and a hell of a lot of magic.." Freya slowly responded, standing up.
Her body went limp as she passed out, falling into Elijah's arms.
"She was fine. Mia healed her."
He moved her hair out of the way, taking notice of the puncture wound on her neck.
"This scratch is not healed. This is poison, an assassination attempt."
After a couple minutes, Freya's eyes fluttered open.
"She's waking up.."
"You okay?" Rebekah checked.
"I feel weak."
"Those vampires must have stabbed her with something. Is there a cure?" Hayley inquired.
"The Strix are fond of this slow-acting poison, and there is an antidote. If I can get my hands on it."
"I'm sure they have it locked away. Aya isn't just going to hand it over." I told him.
"I have rather persuasive methods, darling." He smirked.
"For this, I'll need a pure silver knife, some white muskroot." Freya said.
"I'll get the knife and Jackson can track down the root." Hayley said before leaving.
"Mia, stay here with Freya and Rebekah.."
"We don't need a babysitter, Elijah!" Rebekah complained.
Freya struggled to keep her balance as she stood up.
"Freya, you can barely float a feather right now, let alone save the world."
"I'll channel Finn." She stated.
"Oh, lovely. My fate rests in the hands of our black sheep of a brother that we have trapped in a necklace. I'm sure he's just leaping to help." Rebekah scoffed.
"Well, he's the only other powerful witch here, and you and I are out of options, sister."
"Let's make the best of it, shall we?"
