seven years later ✨

"So, Mom, what's up? How did you sweep dad off his feet? You never told me how you guys met." Ella asked, looking at the family photo of me, her and Klaus.

"We are not going there. Let's just say your father was already a sociopath before I met him." I smiled, tilting my head.

"Alright, I'll accept that. At least you had a chance to grow up with him." She sadly spoke.

I sighed, understanding her frustration. She hadn't seen or spoken to Klaus since the day he left.

We sent pictures but he never responded. I spent most nights trying to figure out why but.. I can't. I just don't understand.

"You need to get to school before you're late. You're not.."

"Even supposed to be here. I know, Mom."

"Josh, that's because we haven't taken it for granted in seven years. Let me remind you: moments of prosperity are invariably followed by times of great pain, unless we remain vigilant."

"Thank you, Mr. Buzzkill." Freya said, sipping her wine.

"Okay, Freya, what you got, Mardi Gras prep?" Vince asked her.

"The witches will be working on their float in the City of the Dead."

"Mia? Hayley?"

"The werewolves will be in the Bayou, Mia and I have given them their tasks."

"Josh?"

"Yeah?" Josh hummed, not taking his eye off his phone.

"Hm? This is when you're supposed to say that the vampires are gonna steer clear of both."

"Yeah. Uh, actually, maybe we should offer them some sort of incentive." He suggested.

"Seven years of peace and prosperity not enough?" Hayley questioned.

He typed on his phone before putting it down and nodding.

"Well, it is, but we could always use more daylight rings."

"Is this a negotiation, Josh?... Marcel." Vince realized, looking at Josh's phone.

"You know what? First of all, reading that was very rude, and second..."
