"Did you retrieve all of the weapons?" Elijah asked.

Klaus smirked, being sarcastic.

"Well, I don't know. Let's confirm with Dominic, shall we? Oh, wait, we can't. His corpse is currently burning in a dumpster. I try to avoid bloodshed, you become the town executioner."

"Let me handle this."

"Why exactly should I do that?"

"Ella.."

"You see, it's precisely because of her that I have to assert my involvement. So, brother... Tell me what you know."

Elijah stared at him for a minute before speaking.

"This thing wants to be reborn. This morning, Vincent said that whenever it resurfaces, it does so in four distinct locations. I can't tell why."

"It's looking for something." I spoke up.

"Four things, by the sound of it, and I'm pretty sure that I have one of them."

"We've seen this time and time again. When a witch wishes to be reborn, its remains are required to complete the spell. You've just found a piece of our enemy." Klaus said, smirking at me.

"Lucky me. Who has the other three?" I asked.

"Dominic. Dominic said that he had found something here." Elijah replied.

"What? There's just, like, a bag of bones laying around that I didn't know about?"

"No, but there is one."

"What are you talking about?"

"Dominic's death was a distraction." Klaus said.

"They used our own deception against us." Elijah added.

"This thing has followers everywhere. They've infiltrated the entire city. If they get to the other bones before we do..."

"Then they may well try to raise this monstrosity, and it will come for us all."

"You're hosting a yard sale?" Klaus asked, taking notice of the many boxes around the room.

"I just figured while we're stuck here, I may as well work out which stuff to keep and which to donate."

He nodded, sitting next to me.

"Listen, I found Ella exploring the rubbish in the attic. She's restless."

"She's not restless, Klaus. She's bored. Most kids her age would be at school. They'd have friends to play with."

"Well, once Freya teaches her to hone her magic, she'll be powerful beyond measure. She won't need friends. She'll be worshiped."

"She doesn't want to be worshipped. She just wants someone to hold the other end of the jump rope, to play dolls with her..."

"She'll be above such things. She will have power enough to protect herself from anything. We won't have to trap her in bloody boundary spells just to keep her safe."

"She's a kid before she's a tri-brid."

"Well, we'll protect her innocence for as long as we can. You and I both know the importance of that. No one protected ours."

"Well... while you're here, you may as well help me go through this stuff. You might find something useful."

He nodded, looking in one of the boxes while I called Elijah.

"Oh, look at that. How to Defeat the Hollow: Volume One. Hidden in here amongst these old Guns N' Roses records. Oh, sweet child of mine."

I laughed, hitting his arm as I ended the call.

"Elijah isn't answering his phone."

"I'll try Freya. You might want to hold onto these." He gave me the photos of all of us at Christmas.

"We should take more family pictures." I suggested.

"There is a reason vampires avoid photographs."

"Well, not everyone in this family is immortal anymore. Freya being one of them."

"She's not picking up, either. You know, this is a fool's errand. We're not gonna accomplish anything in this mess. I should be out there..."

"Dodging an evil ghost who wants you dead? No. You're safe here."

"Safe and entirely ineffective."

"Your daughter needs you.."

"My daughter needs the Hollow to be purged from this earth!" He yelled.

"Why are you yelling at me? I'm on your side."

"I can't be trapped here!" He panicked.

"You're not in a dungeon anymore. It's okay, Klaus..." I grabbed his hand, lightly squeezing it.

"The water in the pipes was like nails on a chalkboard. I was starving. I could smell the blood from the people on the street above me, I could hear their heartbeats. My own mind turned against me. It was taunting me. It was relentless. The first few weeks were the worst."

"You're fine.. it's out of your head, and if need to talk, I'm here."

He smiled, kissing my cheek.

The day went by and we were finally done with the boxes. A hot shower and my pillow were calling my name.

"What do you say we enjoy some alone time? I'm sure your body is aching for mine as mine is yours.." he suggested as we walked out of the room.

I bit my lip, seductively staring at him. He smirked, shrugging and slowly walking away.

"I'm gonna say good night to Ella." I told him, feeling the heartbeat in my underwear.

"Mia, wait." I heard Klaus' voice before feeling an excruciating pain then blacking out.
