"You're not dating that boy!" My father said, practically yelling at me. It was now after dinner and my father and I were in the kitchen, fighting about what had happened earlier in the day.

"And why not?" I asked, huffing in annoyance.

"Well, for many reasons! But I don't need one, I'm your father and you're still a child." My father said, crossing his arms over his chest.

"Well, he's my boyfriend! I'm sorry you found out the way that you did, but that doesn't change the fact of the matter." I responded.

"I will not allow you to date him, Gemma. That is final."

"Dad, you're being unreasonable! You and mom started dating while you were at Hogwarts! How is that any different?"

"Your mother wasn't the child of a Death eater!" My father shouted at me, his face turning red with rage.

My mouth dropped slightly in shock before I pursed my lips together tightly. "So that's what this is about." I finally said.

"Gemma, look, you're smarter than this. We raised you better than this." My father said.

"You raised me to judge people based off of their character." I challenged, raising an eyebrow at him. "You don't even know Draco!"

"I know enough about his family. They're bad news, Gemma, and I will not have you getting mixed up in it!" My father exclaimed. "For fucks sake, you're the daughter of two members of the Order. He's the son of two Death eaters."

"Narcissa isn't a Death eater." I said quickly.

"Well, she's married to and remained loyal to one. If Draco is anything like his father, he'll follow suit. Maybe he already has! Voldemort's followers are rising. You know what's coming, Gemma." My father ran a hand through his hair, lowering his voice as he said, "Be reasonable."

"You're the one being unreasonable! We are not our parents." I said. I could feel my chest tighten slightly at the mention of Draco following in his father's footsteps. It made it so much harder justifying my relationship or talking about it each time that was brought up because I had to try to actively avoid the topic and lie about it. If people were to know the truth, I don't know that anyone would support me.

"What is that supposed to mean?" My father asked, eyeing me cautiously as he immediately seemed to fear the worst.

"Just because our parents make decisions doesn't mean we support them. Come on, Dad, you know me." I said softly. "I am strong, and I know what I believe in. You know that I am on the same side as you and mum. I am a reasonable person. And I have made that decision on my own, even if there was guidance from you two. But I'm not breaking up with Draco. I...I love him."

My dad closed his eyes, slowly letting out a deep breath. I waited in silence as he opened his eyes to look at me again. "Gemma, things are getting scary out there. I am just trying to protect you. All of that aside though, you're still my little girl. Why didn't you tell me?"

My heart sank a little as I looked at my father. He may have his fears about Draco's family, but I could see that he was hurt that I didn't tell him myself about Draco and me. I quickly went around the kitchen counter separating my father and I, hugging him tightly. "I'm sorry, Dad." I said quietly. "But I will always be your little girl."

"I love you so much, Gem." My dad said softly, pressing a kiss to my head.

"I love you too, Dad." I said quietly. I had always been a daddy's girl growing up. All my life I'd just wanted to make him proud, I'd wanted to make both of my parents proud. The last thing I wanted was for the person I loved to come in between my parents and I.
