“Morgan? You all set?” Happy asks from the front seat. “Yep, let's head in.”
May is doing a charity event and ask me to come. She said some celebrity endorsement would help get the ball rolling. Even if I'm hardly a celebrity.
We head in the back entrance, thank goodness we did. Happy is having so much trouble with the comically large check that it would have been embarrassing in front of so many people.
“Hey, sorry we're late.” I wave to May and Peter. The latter just having taken off his mask.
“Morgan, Happy. Hey.” Squeezing by Happy, I place myself beside and slightly behind Peter.
Knocking on his suit, I remember sketching up the design. I never liked the gold accent, but dad had to add it since it was the Iron Spider and all that.
“Oh, you look lovely.” Happy compliments May. Nothing too unusual.
“Thanks. You too.” She compliments back, still not unusual.
“Thank you.” Okay, still not unusual, but the air around them sure is.
“New dress?”
“Yeah, yes, it is.” Both Peter and I look at our respective aunt and uncle.
“It's a new beard.” She pinches the air around her own nonexistent beard.“He calls it his Blip beard,” I whisper to Peter. The close proximity however allows Happy to hear me.
“'Cause I grew it in the Blip.” He explains my statement. “It's a Blip beard.”
“I see.”
“Anyway, so, the reason I'm late is that this was misplaced. Can you believe it? Because it's enormous. I mean, not the amount, the size. The amount's nice too. They're generous.”
May chuckles and Peter stares at Happy suspiciously.
“Pepper Potts said sorry she couldn't be here.” Happy notices us staring and gives us a quizzical look.
“I think I'm gonna go change the Sterno under the vegan lasagna.” She starts to walk off and the air seems to clear slightly.
“Spider-Man, Miss Stark. Go shake hands.” Peter salutes as she finally leaves. “Will do.”
We both turn to Happy, “What just happen.” I can't help but also be completely bewildered. “No, seriously, what was that?”
Happy tries to change the subject. Regardless, I'll remember later. “Heads up, Nick Fury's gonna call you.” Interesting. I was going to head out with May, but I can stay and listen.
Promptly, I hop onto the small wooden ledge near where Peter's stuff is.
“Nick Fury's gonna call me? Why?”
“Why? He probably has hero stuff for you to do. You're a superhero. He calls superheroes.”
“Well, I mean if it was that important, he'd probably call someone else, not me.”Right then, Peter's phone buzzes in his bag, beside me. “Looks like he would, Pete.” He walks over and digs through his bag, pulling out the source of the noise.
“See, no caller ID. That's him.”
“I don't wanna talk to Nick Fury.”
I wouldn't want to either. It's never good news.“Answer the phone.”
“Why?”
“Because if you don't talk to him, then I have to, and I don't want to talk to him.”
“Well, why don't you want to talk to him?”
“Because I'm scared. Just answer the phone.”Peter holds up the phone and presses the screen. I can't tell what he did because the screen is facing the opposite direction of me.
“You sent Nick Fury to voicemail?” Oh, no, that's what you don't want to do.
“Yeah.”
“You don't send Nick Fury to voicemail.”
“Did you hear that? They're calling me. I gotta go.”
“You gotta talk to him.”
“I'm gonna call him. I promise, I'm going to call him. I will.”
“He's not gonna call him.” I chime in.
“You do not ghost Nick Fury.”
“I promise you. I'll call him.” With that, Peter closes the curtain.I look over to Happy. “Nick Fury will figure it out. He always does.” I jump down and follow the iron clad boy.
A/N: Sorry if I get some quotes wrong. I'm watching the movie on Starz and their subtitles suck.
