Miss Dress-Up

It's the day of the Homecoming dance, and I'm freaking out. I haven't picked a dress because I wasn't even sure I was going to go. "Mai, run the Dress-up protocol!" Suddenly a holographic wardrobe pops up.

It has every clothing piece I own. Most of it was at the Avengers Tower. Now it's all in boxes, in my extra bedroom. "Mai, sort. Formal dresses only." At least 65% of the options disappear. "Let go with only black dresses." Out of the twenty-five dresses, only six are left.

I step into each of them and look at the screens acting as mirrors. I eventually decide on the simplest one. Its knee length with an off the shoulder sleeve design. "Mai, locate this dress." My wardrobe was completely organized when I left the Tower. So they'd better had packed it that way.

"It's in the box labeled G2." I quickly find it and pull it out. It's nice by its self, but it needs something more. I pull out a silver belt with small spikes. "I guess we're going punk this year. It's a drastic contrast from the soft, light blue look I went with last year."

"It's sure to get the boy's heads turning." I turn to see Dad at the door. "Oh, hey, I didn't know you were dropping in." I lied, I knew he'd come to tell me not to run off and try anything dangerous.

"Yeah, well, I had to make sure you were wearing something acceptable." He laughs and fishes for something in his pocket. "I brought you something. I hoped it would match your outfit. Thankfully it does."

He gives me a small black box, I open it to see a necklace with a black gem. "Oh thank you, I love it." I close the box and hug my father. "Thanks, Iron Dad." He returns the gesture. "Its nothing, it only cost a little bit." I know what a  little bit really means to him, it's probably worth more than anything I own.

"Now, where's the boy picking you up. I know I can't meet him, but if like to see him. If it's Peter, I swear to God I will hang him by his ankle." I blush because I really wanted it to be Peter.

"No, no, no, I don't have a date. I'm going with MJ. But we're meeting at the school." He nods and sighs, Clearly thankful. "Good, because I was trying to be sportive, but you are way too young to date.

"Dad, are you being serious right now?" I cross my arms and give him the stink eye. "Absolutely, no boy or man will ever be good enough for you. Not even me." Ignore him and go to my vanity to put the necklace on. While I'm there I also do light makeup and put on tights and fishnet gloves.

"You aren't going to do your hair?" Dad asks from behind me. "No, I'm not good at that stuff. I only know the basics of makeup."
"I can hire someone real quick." Getting up and pushing my chair in, I tell him not to worry about it.

"Well, we both have to be going. It's moving day after all. Remember, don't do anything stupid or reckless it dangerous."
"Then how am I supposed to have fun?"
We wave goodbye and he leaves the apartment.

I wait a while before calling a cab. It gets to my building and I climb in. This is the second time I've been to a school dance, so I'm still kind of nervous. The last one I was with MJ the whole time, and I barely danced.

"Thank you, " I give the driver his tip and I walk the rest of the way there. I felt weird pulling up in a cap.

The outside is crowded, and I see many familiar faces. None of them being my friends though. Till I hear Ned yell. "Yo! Morgan! Over here." Ned is flailing his arms and MJ looks annoyed. I push through the crowd and hug the two. "Gosh, you both look absolutely beautiful." Ned puts a hand on his chest in mock offense. "I'm sorry, you look gorgeous." We all laugh, "that's better, now lets head inside."

"We aren't waiting for Peter?" We start walking despite my question. "He's going to come with Liz, so who knows when he's going to show up."

When we enter, the place is packed, I didn't even realize we had this many students. Even with a plus one. It's a few minutes before we see Liz. "Peter must be right behind her," Ned whispers to me. He knows I worry over him.

After what feels like forever, Pete comes in, he looks distraught. Ned and I wave. So does MJ but she quickly sticks out her middle finger. He continues to walk, he's probably looking for Liz. But I can't shake the feeling that's something up.

He was doing the thing where it looks like he's holding a frog in his mouth.

Then I see him running somewhere and I got to follow. "I'll be back, I need to pee." I quickly follow him, either he's suddenly gotten really nervous to dance with Liz, or he found out something about the Vulture. That's what I've started to call the guy in the metal wings.

I see him pull up the set of lockers he hides his Spider stuff in. "Oh no, we're gonna need Ned!" I take off my heels and start sprinting back to the dance. When I get there I quickly find Ned. "Ned, you need to come with me!" They look at me oddly and I try to come up with an excuse. Unfortunately, all that comes to mind only works if Ned was a girl.

"Uh, I think Pete might be getting sick in the restroom. And of course, I can't go in there." He thinks for a second and realizes that it means Pete needs help, for other reasons. "Yeah, got it, I'll go check." He follows me and we hurry to where I assume Peter was running off to. "We need to help Spider-Kid!"
"Why are you calling him that?"
"Because he doesn't have his suit, so he's wearing the one that looks like it was made by a kid."

"That's because it was." I click a few buttons on my watch to put the earliest models of my gear on standby. No wings, just boots, and gloves.
