I was in my second class when Peter started mixing different chemicals together. "Peter, what the hell are you doing. Trying to get Cobbwell mad at you?" He quickly looks away from the drawer full of whatever he was doing. "Uh, its nothing, just experimenting, they encourage that kind of stuff right?" He seems a bit frazzled when he quickly shuts away the evidence. "Not when somethings are potentially dangerous."
He waves me off and looks at the clock. He has been acting super strange ever since he started the internship a couple of months ago. Come to think of it, that's the same time Dad went to Germany. That's it! Is the Stark Internship really him being Spider-Man? Peter fits the basic physical traits of Spider-Man. Same height and build, and I had already figured out Spider-Man was my age.
I decided to try and get more clues from him, "Peter, what's your opinion on our local spider-themed hero?" He looks at me the same way a toddler would when you found them coloring on the walls. "He's pretty cool I guess. He seems like he is really trying his best to help out the little guys." I nod my head and he goes back to the lesson.
Now, to find the solid proof.
I'm sitting with MJ when I overhear the boys fawning over Liz. I want to say that I'm just simply jealous, but it's more the feeling that they should be talking more about how she's intelligent and knows where she's going in life and less of what tops she's worn and with what skirt.
"We should probably stop staring before it gets creepy, though." I'm about to interrupt them but MJ beats me to it. "Too late."
I steal my chance, "You guys are losers," I say in a joking tone.
And Ned responds, "But then why do you guys sit with us?"
"Because we don't have any friends, " MJ says in a deadpan tone. "Yeah, this is the only somewhat empty table." I start scooting closer towards the boys.
After that, we have Academic Decathlon practice. Nationals are coming up. MJ and I are sitting doing homework, listening to the match. I've been constantly on guard for Peter, hoping maybe he'd let something slide that connected him to the Spider-Boy.
He is talking to Mr. Harrington about staying home instead of going to D.C. No one is going to like that. Flash looks up from whatever he is reading. "You've never even been in the same room as Tony Stark."
"Wait, what's happening?"
"Peter's not going to Washington."
"No. No, no, no, no, no. No. No."
Abe rings the bell, "Why not?"Liz chimes in with a disappointed voice, "Really? Right before nationals?" That's going to make his heart clench, he knows how much Liz cares about this.
"He already quit marching band and robotic lab." My friend looks away from her book. "God, you are obsessed with him aren't you?" I tease her. "I'm not obsessed with him. Just very observant." I give a small "uh-huh".
"Flash, you're in for Peter."
"Ooh, I don't know. I gotta check my calendar first. I got a hot date with Black Widow coming up." I scoff and he glares at me. Abe rings his bell again, "That is false." Then he switches his glare to Abe.
Harrington reprimands Abe. I go back to work with MJ. She has half the assignment already done.
When the ending bell buzzes and I leave my class, as I walk out I look out a window, I see Peter exit the school. He quickly looks around then proceeds to jump the fence much taller than him. I hurry and run out of the school to follow him.
Peter runs off to a deli, looking through the window I see the customers. Big surprise, I know. Peter makes a smushing motion with his hands. after a bit of talking to the man at the counter, he gets his sandwich and bag of candy. Not before petting the cat on the counter. I barely notice when Peter comes running out of the building and right into me.
"Oh hey, Morgan, funny seeing you here. Best sandwichs, right? Can't beat 'em." I nod in pure panic. 'He knows you were following him, now he's going to think you're the obsessed one.' He waves and runs off again.
I stand there processing what happened before realizing he was getting away. I then run after him. He nearly gets hit and then darts into an alley. He looks around but clearly doesn't take notice of me. After pulling off his shoes he takes out a red and blue mass from his backpack. It's hard to make out, but it's just as hard to mistake. It's the suit my dad made and I designed for his newest recruit. Spider-Man.
After getting into the suit he webshoots his backpack to the dumpster. I turn to run away before he sees me very obviously stalking him.
I reach my apartment and Mai greets me. "Welcome Morgan." I greet her back and head over to my work area to finish my rocket boots. "Now that I know Peter is allowed to go fight crime, I have to work double-time on this, Mai."
"I do not believe your father will suddenly understand just because your genetically altered friend is doing it. Would you jump off a bridge if Mr. Parker did?" I contemplate the question.
"Depends, am I the only one who can save him?"
"That was not the point, Morgan." I laugh and lose a screw from the piece I'm working on. "Dammit."
A few hours later I get a text from Ned.
You're still coming to Pete's with me, right?
Of course, wouldn't want to miss out on guy time.
Great, head over in 30 minutes, I'll meet ya there.
I put the phone down and start to clean up for the day. "Mai, I'm bringing my watch." I grab it and it powers on. "Would you like it in advanced combat mode." I click a few buttons. "No, Mai, If I've told you once, I've told you a thousand times. Not every situation needs a laser gun."
