Mr. President

The next morning I wake up to Betsy telling me my father has left. I can't help but feel relieved. I get up and follow the same routine as always. Check my phone, brush my teeth, shower, go downstairs for breakfast, and fill out applications for the rest of the day. It is a very tiring and boring routine, but it is what I need to do to escape this country.

At around 9 pm I finish all my applications and make sure they are all properly submitted. "Finally" I sigh. This week felt like years, but at least I have finished. Now I just wait.

I switch on my TV and see the headline "Theo Morgan Best-Selling Author And Entrepreneur Planning to Run For Position In Office" I roll my eyes as I switch the TV off again. "Of course he wants to be a politician now. He will do anything for power and no one will question him either, it's driving me insane. I really need to get out of here now." I whisper under my breath while burying my head in my pillow. I decide to just get some extra sleep and doze off.

When I arrive from school the next day I hear a knock at my door. I go to answer it and see that it is Melissa. She greets me with a smile and says "Hello Sierra, I assume you already know about your father's surprise decision to run for president."

"President..ah yes," I say. That was a lie, I knew he was running for office, but I wasn't sure as to what that entailed. Especially for someone like him.

"This comes as a surprise, but I can't say I am too shocked. He is a very power-hungry man and I hope that he will be busy enough with his campaign to leave you alone for a while. Betsy told me that he visited a few days back. How did it go?" she asks.

"The same old. He basically just told me that I am worthless and won't amount to anything. He just wanted to make sure I stay here for college. I told him that was what I planned to do and he doesn't need to worry." I say slightly annoyed.

"Oh, I see," Melissa says awkwardly. "Was he satisfied with your response?"

"Yeah, he seemed relieved that I didn't put up a fight so I don't think he will get any ideas."

"Ok, that's good." Melissa then looks over her shoulder, checking her surroundings, before handing me a letter similar to the previous one. "It's from your mother" she whispers quietly.

"Thank you" I reply before tearing open the gold seal. I notice the same writing on the pages and see that my mother had left yet another message for me.

After reading this I looked up at Melissa. I took a deep breath and handed her the letter.

Once she had read through it she looked at me and said, "I was able to talk to your mother. I don't know where she is and her phone number wasn't traceable, but she is safe for now. We discussed your safety and decided a new identity in England is best for you. No matter where you go you will have an alias name and a cover family. We already have FBI families all over the UK so you would move in with one of them and take their last name to make it more realistic. It won't be forever Sierra. Eventually, your life will be normal."

"Normal" I couldn't help, but laugh. My life was everything, but normal. A crazy father, a missing mother, a secret aunt who works for the FBI, and a million other things. "I don't think it is possible for my life to be normal, but I will take the closest thing I can get. I need my father gone" I say coldly.

Melissa looks at me a bit shocked and says, "I have got to go now. I have to pay a visit to my friends at Oxford this week. I will see you soon. Be on the lookout for any college mail. Hopefully, you will get accepted early." She then walks out the door into her long black limo. I watch as her driver pulls out of the driveway and the car disappears.

"And now the show begins" I say quietly.

From this moment on my life was going to change. I had to prepare for the new life before me and the secrets I was going to uncover.
