The next morning I woke up to Adyline knocking on my door at 6 am. She was holding some medicine and wound cleaning supplies.
I dug my head into my pillow. This was gonna hurt.
Adyline noticed that I looked uncomfortable "Don't worry I will try my best not to hurt you. I just have to carefully clean your wounds twice a day. I want you healed up as soon as possible. If..he..he saw this. He would kill whoever did this to you."
"Who?" I asked. "Who would?"
Adyline looked down quickly. "No one, never mind."
"Adyline tell me. What are you guys hiding from me? I have a feeling this has to do with that man I saw. It wasn't a dream I saw him! And when I brought him up Maddox got mad. Who is he?" I said irritated
Adyline looked at me for a couple of seconds. She was getting teary-eyed. "Listen Zara. I know who you're talking about. It's complicated. I don't want you to make the same mistakes you made before. He's bad news. Stay away from him."
"Adyline! Stop ignoring my question! Who is he and why is everyone hiding my own past from me! I'm not stupid! I can tell somethings going on! He might be my only shot at getting my memory back! I need to know what happened the night of the fire. And before that. Please help me out." My tone quickly changed from anger to sadness.
Adyline's tears started rolling down her face. She sat down beside me on the bed and put her arms around me. She hugged me and whispered "Ok ok. I'll tell you. But the only one who can tell you the full story is him."
I nodded before pulling out of her embrace. "Tell me now"
Adyline wiped away a few tears before saying "He was my boyfriend. You hated him. I worked for the FBI and it was my mission to figure him out. In fact, I still work for them. His family had some..issues. I fell in love with him. You two eventually started spending a lot of time together. It was weird since you hated him more than anything. Eventually, I saw him fall for you. Even you fell for him. We broke up. You two were never official, but I saw him care for you more than anything. He loved you. It's...just that...he was never good at showing that he cared. He also had quite a temper. You two were in love but it was toxic. Every day something new happened. Whether that be good things or bad things. Max never treated you right and he knew it. He just couldn't help it. I actually talked to him a couple of days ago. He told me that the night of the fire you two had argued. He blamed himself for what happened to you. He was a mess. I saw him again the next day and he was back to his cold self. He didn't seem to care about anything. I know that when he saw you in the hospital his heart broke. He had to leave. Zara he blames himself. He knows he can't hurt you again."
I processed this for a moment. "Adyline I'm so sorry. You loved him and I ruined it." I sighed.
Adyline smiled "And he loved you. There was nothing I could do. He was yours. Don't be sorry."
I looked at her before quickly looking back down. There was so much pain in her eyes.
It was silent for a while but Adyline soon spoke "Anyways I am going to clean you up really quickly before school. I have to bring you piles of work. You will be busy. You should be clear to go back by this Friday though."
I nodded and Adyline began the process of peeling off my old bandaids. I noticed that my wounds looked raw today. For some reason, I looked worse. "It's gonna get worse before it gets better" I thought to myself.
Once she finished Adyline grabbed her supplies and said "Rest for a couple of hours but get ready by 3 pm. When I come back I need to take you to my boss so he can ask you some questions. Based on your past the FBI protects you. We need to find out who did this. After that, we are going to Max's. You need to talk to him."
"Ok sounds good" I said before turning back down towards my pillow, It was too early for all this.
