As she got closer I was able to take in details about her. She smelled of cologne mixed with some type of drug and had a cut on her cheek. She was wearing a ripped jean jacket, which of course was black. When she walked by me I noticed the intensity in her stare. Her pupils were very dilated and her eyes were glazed. I could smell a hint of marijuana coming from her. "Bad news," I thought.
She glanced at me as if she heard my thoughts and walked towards Kailyn. "Ugh let's get this over with" she sighed. "Max is being difficult today and it's because of his preppy little low-life girlfriend."
Adyline had been nothing, but good to me so I found it necessary to stand up for her. This girl was getting on my nerves already. Besides I am Sierra Morgan, she has nothing on me. "Excuse me?" I questioned just as they turned away. The girl turned back around and smiled "Oh look, another low life to annoy me. Let me guess you are her sister" she rolled her eyes again.
"Careful or your eyes may get stuck in your non-existent brain" I shot back.
"Woahh. So this one likes to talk back." she took a step closer to me and said "Listen here, newbie. Everything here runs on my rules. Your little Adyline bows down to me and if you're not willing to do the same...well you won't be living anymore."
Her warm breath was polluting the air I stood in and rage shot through me. "Girls like you think they're so cool huh. Let me tell you something. Your behavior isn't going to help you. By the way, you need a mint. Fucking a taken man didn't seem to be enough for you."
That's when the girl snapped. I saw her fist coming in for a punch, but she was slow. To slow. I ducked and countered back with a punch straight to the jaw, and boy did it look like it hurt. The girl was fuming and ran off. "Guess she's not so brave after all" I whispered while watching her stomp off.
I hadn't noticed, but everyone had formed a group around me. Just then Adyline came rushing towards me and it seemed like Max watched from afar. I gave him a dirty look and directed my gaze back to Adyline. "You didn't have to do that for me! Really! Scarlett isn't someone I would suggest messing with."
"Well, obviously I didn't listen to your suggestion. She was rude to you so I punched her. Doesn't sound bizarre to me. Now let's get this movie over with. It's already 9:55" I voiced angrily.
"How come you lost your accent when you were talking to Scarlett?" Kailyn asked as we were entering the theater.
"Dang it" I thought. I was so mad I forgot about it.
"I shrugged and said "I guess I turn into a crazy American when I'm mad."
Everyone around us laughed and we finally walked into the theater.
While I was getting my popcorn Adyline cornered me. "What are you thinking?" she said hastily.
"I am thinking just fine thank you very much. Your the one not thinking right. He is clearly cheating on you with her." I say angrily.
"Zara that Kailyn's sister Scarlett. Yes she is problematic and I know she has a past with Max, but I have good reason to be with Max. Besides he doesn't think of her as anything other than a fling." Adyline shrugs.
"A fling!" I say irritated. "Adyline with all due respect that is your boyfriend. What they are doing is not ok, and I am not going to let this happen. He is not being loyal!"
"Even if it bothers me I can't do anything!" she screams. At this point, everyone had gone into the showing room except us.
"Yes, you can! As far as Scarlett goes, tell Kailyn to manage her. She seems nice enough. Or better yet, complain to the school! I wouldn't be able to handle seeing Scarlett there anyways!"
"Zara are you forgetting that Kailyn's dad is the headmaster! He is also Scarlett's dad! Unless you are trying to get us kicked out, I don't think talking to him is a good idea. And Kailyn is definitely too nice to say anything to Scarlett!"
"Why is everyone so scared of Scarlett? She seems like an annoying mean girl with no life. I would literally destroy girls like that back home. And I am not afraid to do that here either!"
"Zara for the love of god you need to calm down and keep a low profile! I am supposed to protect you! You aren't supposed to go around punching people on my account!"
"I was standing up for you! She was disrespecting you! You have a douchebag boyfriend and the least I could do was try and help you!" I say. My face now turning red in frustration.
"Help me?!" she questions. "How exactly did you help me? All you did was cause issues with Scarlett and tell me my boyfriend is a douche!"
"That is because he is a douche! A literal idiot! Do you not sense the disrespect! I would never put myself in a relationship with someone as horrible as him!" I screamed.
Adyline went silent and her eyes focused behind me. I turned around to see the piercing eyes of Max Payne staring back at me. His face was cold and he didn't speak. I wonder how long he stood there for. Either way, I couldn't handle this right now.
"Enjoy your night lovebirds!" I said to Adyline while rushing out the door. I could sense Max's eyes still on me, but I didn't have enough energy to argue with him about his behavior. Adyline could deal with him. She was dismissive of his behavior anyways.
