"What are we going to talk about" I asked confused by the current situation.
"Us" Max mumbled. "Our past, our present, and possibly our future. That's if you choose to forgive me of course."
"Forgive you? I mean by the looks of it, it doesn't really look like you planned on having any sort of 'future' with me. There's literally a girl in your house and it doesn't look like she wants to be friends." I said a bit of anger present in my voice.
Max sighed "I'm sorry ok. I didn't know what to do without you. I know you don't like Scarlett. You never really did, but she kept me distracted. So now I'm all yours if you'll take me back."
"Tell me who you are. Jog my memory! Do something! Or at least try to." I sputtered quickly. I wanted to get this over with as fast as possible.
"I'm Max Payne and you're my Tsunami. However, now that I think of that. I don't really like that name. It's a bit weird" he laughed.
I smiled "It definitely is".
"I might have to come up with something new. Anyways, I was Adylines boyfriend. You stole my heart and Adyline noticed. We broke up. You went out with my brother." Max laughed. "Yeah, I'm pretty sure he's still into you. Either way, we started hanging out and got close. It was to the point where I rescued you from your father. I also beat up some dude who tried kidnapping you, so your welcome for that." Max smiled.
I couldn't help but stare at how mesmerizing his features were when he smiled. His whole face lit up and it brought such a beautiful glow with his presence.
"You're not listening to me are you" he smiled.
I quickly straightened up and looked back at him. "Uhm no I'm listening...continue." I said a bit embarrassed that he had caught me staring.
"Mhmm. Well anyways... I fell hard for you and then I lost you. Actually, my anger made me lose you. I should've never gotten mad at you that night. That...that night of the accident. I think about it every day. Every day since you left me. I know it's my fault and I'm going to figure out who tried to hurt you. Mark my words. And if it was your father. Oh...he's in for a ride." Max then smiled at me before getting out of the car.
I watched as he slipped out of the car and shut the door.
To my surprise, he walked around to the passenger's side and opened my door. "Come on now" he laughed. "You didn't think I was done with you already?"
I looked at him confused. He reached out his hand and looked down at me.
I hesitated before grabbing it, and as soon as I did he pulled me out of the car and closer to his body. "I promise we'll take things slow until you get your memory back. I don't want to scare you., but you make it so hard to stay away".
"Then don't" I laughed.
"Stop it" he whispered under his breath as he pulled me to his front door. "Your staying here tonight and tomorrow I'm taking you to school. You left your clothing here last time you stayed so it's been washed and folded for you. It's in your room."
"My room?" I asked. Isn't this your house?"
"I said it's your room, so now it's your room. Don't ask too many questions and just listen to me."
I frowned. Was this really how quickly his mood could shift.
"I'm...I'm sorry," I mumbled before walking up the stairs. I then wandered around until I found a beautiful room that had laundry neatly folded on the bed. I then decided to shower and change when I realized I didn't have any clothing suitable for nightwear. The shirts I had worn here previously according to Max, seemed uncomfortable.
I decided to see if I could find something more proper in another room. I didn't want to disturb Max since he was already frustrated with me and he seemed to be on an important phone call. I could hear him frustratedly speaking to someone on the phone
I soon found myself in a large room. It was definitely Max's. I quickly walked to the closet and grabbed the first black shirt I could find. I then quickly threw it on before hurrying back to my room.
I plopped down on the bed and dimmed the lights just a little. Then I laid on the bed underneath the thick comforter letting my thoughts take over.
However, I was quickly interrupted by Max who gave a hard knock at the door.
"Come in" I shouted.
The door creaked open and Max walked in.
"Hey" he said softly.
"Hey" I whispered back.
"I'm sorry about getting mad at you today. It's just that I keep forgetting the fact that you don't remember the same things as me. You don't remember our memories..or things I've said to you. And I guess that throws me off. I'm sorry. I really am." Max said as he got closer to me.
"It's ok. I understand." I responded trying not to make eye contact with him.
Thats when Max got closer and touched the bruises on my face. "Oh my god, You're kidding me. These weren't there a couple hours ago!" he said concerned.
"Um..umm" I struggled to speak.
"Zara. Tell me what happened now." he commanded.
"Max it's the bruises and burns from the fire. Adyline takes care of them for me. I tried covering them up with makeup today so you wouldn't notice. Adyline said they would make you mad and I think she may have been right." I explained.
"Zara what the hell! Why did you hide this from me! Ofcourse I mad! I'm furious! I'm furious with myself for even putting you in that situation. If I hadn't argued with you that night you wouldn't be in this situation! You wouldn't have left! You wouldn't have deep purple and red burns covering your face! You're almost unrecognizable. This doesn't look like you." Max complained.
For some reason I couldn't help but let out tears that rolled down my face. They burned the burns even more with each inch they fell. I was hurt that he seemed disgusted by how I looked. I was also shocked to learn that a fight may have caused all of this. A silly "little" fight with Max.
Max sighed. "Zara, don't cry. I didn't mean to hurt you. I just was shocked and it made me mad to see you hurting. It hurts me to see you like this." he said while pulling me into a hug.
This didn't stop the tears though. I pushed him away a bit before looking deep into his eyes and asking him "Max am I ugly now? Will you ever speak to me again?"
He then went silent for a moment. He analyzed my face and watched my tears fall. Hs brutal silence made them fall faster. I felt the hot tears gliding down my cheeks like a cruel punishment. His silence was torture.
He then grabbed a tissue and wiped my tears away.
"Zara I don't ever want to hear you say that. You know through all of our ups and downs my opinion on you will never change. Your beauty is beyond anything I've ever seen. You caught my eye the second I laid eyes on you. I'll never forget that moment. How absolutely in awe I was by you. You amaze me with everything you do and to me you'll never stop being so beautiful. So don't ever cry about anything like that ever again. Everything about you is perfect. Esepcially when you steal my shirt." he laughed.
I smiled and said "Thank you stranger".
Max laughed and got up. He got close to my ear and whispered "Goodnight. Forever and always."
Then he quietly exited the room while memories began to flood back to me.
